Zwedru Woman Debunks Viral Rumor of Giving Birth to Pig

Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County — A 40-year-old woman, Mercy Gaye, has strongly denied widespread social media rumors claiming she gave birth to a pig earlier this morning. Speaking to reporters at the Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital on Friday afternoon, Gaye described the circulating story as “completely false and misleading.”

“I’m well. I’m not sick, I’m not bleeding in fact, nothing happened to me this morning,” she said firmly. “The information on social media is far from true.”

Gaye clarified that while she regularly visits the God Miracle Healing Center, there was no such incident as alleged. She further explained that her recent medical examination, conducted three days ago at the hospital, confirmed that her six-month pregnancy is progressing normally.

The unfounded rumor, which spread rapidly across social media, has caused widespread public discussion in Zwedru and beyond. However, Gaye’s public denial appears to have put the baseless speculation to rest.

The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), held a nationwide FY2025 Budget Outreach and FY2026 Pre-Budget Consultation in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, on October 7, 2025. The event aimed to involve citizens in the national budget process and gather their input for the upcoming fiscal year.

MFDP representative Mrs. Kpanah Mason explained that the outreach strengthens public participation, transparency, and accountability in government financial planning. She noted that citizen recommendations from the consultations would be forwarded to senior officials for consideration in national development programs.

Mr. Attilas Karr, head of the Grand Gedeh County Civil Society Council, appreciated the MFDP’s effort to engage rural citizens, saying the session improved public understanding of the national budget as a policy guide rather than actual cash. Participants recommended prioritizing rural infrastructure and marketplace development, and requested Grand Gedeh’s inclusion in the government’s new “19 Machine” rehabilitation initiative.

Mr. Karr also thanked the media for coverage but expressed disappointment over the absence of key county officials during the event.

LDEA Arrests Woman in Possession of Huge Quantity of Tramadol Hidden in Red Oil

The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Clay Checkpoint Detachment in Bomi County has arrested, investigated, and forwarded to court a 45-year-old woman linked to a large quantity of Tramadol discovered concealed in several gallons of red oil.

According to the LDEA, officers on routine vehicle inspection uncovered the drugs hidden inside gallons containing red oil. The suspect, identified as Madam Emmon Gboyah, admitted during investigation that the gallons belonged to her.

Meanwhile, the LDEA detachment in Bomi County has intensified patrol operations in and around the county to prevent traffickers from smuggling dangerous substances into the area. The confiscated drugs are estimated to be worth more than nine hundred thousand Liberian dollars.

The LDEA Bomi County detachment is calling on citizens to continue providing credible information that will aid in the ongoing fight against illicit drugs in the country.

Three Arrested in Gang R**e Case Involving Two Sisters in Zwedru

The City of Zwedru has been shaken by a tragic incident involving two sisters who were reportedly gang-raped on the night of September 8, 2025.

According to police, the victims were returning home to the New Georgia Community after purchasing apples when they were attacked by six men riding two motorcycles. The men chased them into the MAP Office Community, where the sisters tried to hide in a banana bush. The attackers allegedly dragged them out, threatened them with knives, and carried out the assault.

The Liberia National Police Women and Children Protection Section (WACPS) has arrested three suspects:
🔹 Chris Gbawea, 21
🔹 Isaac Bloe (alias LEVEL), 22
🔹 George Brown (alias Two Days Soup), 20

The three are in custody pending investigation, while the other suspects remain at large.

Authorities confirmed that the victims have received medical assistance and are working to ensure their safety. Police vow to bring the remaining perpetrators to justice.

The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency, Grand Gedeh County Detachment, has arrested a suspect with a large quantity of drugs at the Niao Bawadee border.

According to LDEA Commander Papa S. Gompu, officers on September 4 apprehended Comfort Flomo, a Liberian national of the Kpelleh tribe, who resides in the Kudabypass Community of Zwedru.

During the operation, officers seized one plate of ma*****na valued at 20,000 Liberian dollars, along with five cups of Shicha, a drug-related substance.

Authorities say the arrest underscores the ongoing challenges in the fight against illegal drug trafficking in the county.

Sad Development: Girl’s Finger Cut in New Georgia, Woman and Husband Arrested

Police in New Georgia have arrested a woman and her husband after the woman allegedly cut off part of a young girl’s finger during an incident on Tuesday evening, according to community members.

The victim, identified as Georgina, was reportedly attacked after being accused of causing a neighbor’s baby to fall while playing. Witnesses said the suspect grabbed the child and cut her finger as punishment.

Georgina is currently receiving treatment at a local health facility.

Outraged community members have strongly condemned the act and are demanding justice. “We need justice for Georgina,” said Gifty Goodrich, a resident who helped raise awareness of the case.

Police have confirmed the arrest of the woman and her husband, stating that both suspects are being held in custody for further investigation.

Grand Gedeh Citizen Criticizes Government Over Dismissal of LDEA Officers

A concerned citizen of Grand Gedeh County, Christian C. Manyeah, has taken to Facebook to express disappointment over the recent dismissal of three senior officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) by President Joseph Boakai.

In his post, Manyeah described the move as a “sad day for the nation,” criticizing the government for failing to turn the dismissed officials over for investigation. He argued that dismissing people without forwarding them to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) for proper investigation is a sign of unseriousness in handling governance issues.

“Mr. Boakai dismissed three senior ringing officers of LDEA last night. Now turn them over to LACC for investigation. Do not just run behind CDC officials. Sad day for our nation,” Manyeah wrote.

Manyeah’s comments reflect growing concerns among citizens who believe that accountability should not end at dismissal but should be followed by thorough investigation and possible prosecution where evidence of corruption or wrongdoing is found.

His statement comes at a time when the government is under increasing public pressure to strengthen the fight against corruption and ensure transparency in handling national issues.

Manyeah concluded that Liberia’s leadership must show seriousness by ensuring that dismissed officials face justice through the appropriate legal channels rather than being quietly relieved of their duties.

‎Senator Kogar Survives Alleged Assassination Attempt in Nimba

‎Ganta, Nimba County – Nimba County Senator Samuel Gongben Kogar narrowly escaped an alleged assassination attempt on Monday night when a man identified as Diasielay, a Guinean national believed to be between 35 and 40 years old, reportedly entered his Ganta residence around 10:00 p.m. with the intent to harm him.

‎According to Diasielay’s own confession to the Ganta Community Chairman, he was allegedly invited by an unnamed individual to kill the senator using traditional medicine. He was subsequently turned over to the Liberia National Police (LNP) Nimba Detachment for investigation.

‎Following preliminary police inquiries, Diasielay was transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Bureau of Customs and Cultural Affairs in Sanniquellie, where he was received by Chief Herbalist Leroy Gborley on behalf of the traditional authorities for further investigation.

‎Senator Kogar has since urged his supporters and residents of Nimba to remain calm and await the outcome of the ongoing probe by traditional leaders.
