*GOL-Urey Versus Alexander B. Cummings and Others*
*CASE SUMMARY JANUARY 12, 2022*
In the case of GOL versus Alexander B. Cummings and others, the GoL got drubbed miserably today. Judge Jomah Jallah rejected the request to televise the trial and demanded that the prosecution provide, within five days, all discovery materials requested by Defense Attorney Abraham Sillah. The case was adjourned as the prosecution seemed unready to try the case.
*CASE UPDATE JANUARY 12, 2022*
The judge opened the hearing by ruling on the prosecutor, Solicitor General Syrenius Cephus Motion to televise the trial. He summarily dismissed the motion.
Cllr. Abraham Sillah, lead defense lawyer, filed a motion delineating and requesting that all evidence in the Prosecutors possession, including WhatsApp messages and other exchanges, as well as their witnesses and their addresses, be turned over to the defense. The Judge rule in the Defense favor. However, SG Cephus acknowledged the legality of the request but pray the court for more time beyond the statutory five days. The Judge denied the request and ruled that in five days, the Prosecutors must provide their evidence,
witnesses, and other requested information.
Seemingly, the prosecution is not prepared or ready to try this case. They have proven that Discovery is beyond them. It is embarrassing that the GoL need time to prepare documents that they are already supposed to have.
The rule of law and the Canons of the court will prevail.
