MASSIVE PROGRESS AT BUCHANAN GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL UNDER DR.WEIDEHGAR LEADERSHIP.

Buchanan: Feb 6, 2024- Dr. Weidehgar, a medical doctor and the county health officer of Grand Bassa County is not just sitting but using his advocacy skills to get the county public hospital to standard.

He has been robust in his advocacy for the improvement of the health sector.

Based on his desire to see a vibrant health sector, Weidehgar who has spent at least three years in the county has met with partners, stakeholders, and others to help by improving the infrastructure of the hospital.

Besides that, the young medical doctor has also lobbied for modern medical equipment to do major tests that are mostly referred to Monrovia.

With his tireless efforts to see the county hospital improved, Weidehgar lobbied with the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to render assistance for a safe environment for the staff and patients.

Due to Weidehgar's hard work, the Church has begun renovating the entire building of the Liberian government hospital in Buchanan.

The work the church has agreed to do includes a new roof on the main building, a walkway, and the isolation building and replacing of damaged ceilings.

For the Labor room, the replacement of the air conditioners and the building of a new trash incinerator among others.

Furthermore, the CHO Weidehgar lobbying power has made the hospital benefit from several medical equipment including a microscope, Kidney, Liber, and heart function test machines.

Other things Dr.Weidehgar lobbied for are a chest freezer, refrigerator, dryer machine, a new generator, a Laparotomy set, and patient gowns among others.

Dr.Weidehgar who has a passion for the medical field was also able to meet with District Two lawmaker Clarance Bank to improve the Laboratory department of the hospital.

The work that has started when completed will be a comfortable place for the use of patients and the staff of the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Bassa CHO has expressed happiness for the level the hospital has reached.

He commended the staff of the hospital for their cooperation, adding that these things would not have been achieved without them.

BUCHANAN- The executive director of Integrity Watch Liberia Harold Aidoo wants the people of Grand Bassa County to make use of the anti-corruption reporting digital platform to report corruption.

Speaking with reporters in Buchanan, Mr. Aidoo mentioned that the citizens are not feeling the impact of the national budget due to the rampant corruption across Liberia.

He attributed the lack of medicines at the government-run hospitals and the challenges at public schools to the increase in corruption in the country.

Therefore, Aidoo is urging the residents and citizens of Grand Bassa County to take advantage of the TALKAY app they have developed to help fight corruption so that they can feel the impact of the national budget.

The executive director told reporters that several youth groups in the county have been trained on how to use the TALKAY app to report corruption.

The training which lasted for two days was held at the Bassa youth caucus building on the fairground in Buchanan.

For his supporting partners, he named the United Nations Development Program, Peace-building Fund, and USAID among others.

He added that they envisaged a lot of changes in Liberia as they continued to carry out awareness about eradicating corruption in Liberia.

Meanwhile, Aidoo commended the young people of Grand Bassa County for taking up their time to attend the training, noting that it was amazing.

Buchanan: May 24, 2023-The former Chairman of the Grand Bassa legislative caucus, Thomas Alexander Goshua says if ArcelorMittal does not address the issue of the concentrator among other things, the company will be mining their ore only in Nimba County.

According to Hon. Goshua, ArcelorMittal will mine in Nimba County and would use helicopters to take their ore to the ocean.

"The issues have gone on for a long period; therefore, we will no longer sit to allow the company's action to continue, Representative Goshua added.

The electoral district five lawmaker said that they will not be violent but will remain peaceful to ensure that AML lives by the MDA. The lawmaker spoke on Tuesday at the Pavilion on the fairground in Buchanan.

In a related development, the Civil Society Council of Grand Bassa County has announced a court action against ArcelorMittal Liberia.

The CSO Chairman Barley Tokpa stated that besides the court action, a massive demonstration is expected to take place soon in the county.

These actions, according to Mr. Tokpa, are intended to ensure that the company lives up to its concession agreement.

GRAND BASSA UNIVERSITY BRIDGE TO BE DEDICATED IN OCTOBER, REPRESENTATIVE JOE ANNOUNCED.

Buchanan:May 18, 2023- Representative Matthew Joe of Grand Bassa district three has assured the people of Bassa that the university bridge in the county will be completed and dedicated in October of this year.

The Buchanan District lawmaker said he is in constant communication with Jupiter construction company which won the contracts, and they assured him that the bridge will be completed in October.

"The only major work on the bridge is for the abutments to be built", he noted

The incumbent lawmaker mentioned that when the abutments are built, the bridge which is manufactured in a factory abroad will be brought and placed on the abutments and would be ready for dedication.

MAN, 25, ALLEGEDLY KILLED COMMUNITY WATCH FORUM OFFICER IN BASSA.

Buchanan: (May 16, 2023)-A 25-year-old man has stabbed to death the deputy commander of the community watch forum for the Karblee clan in electoral district two, Grand Bassa County.

According to the chairman of the community watch forum in Grand Bassa County Justin Tarr, the alleged murderer, T.Boy Zahn, stabbed the watch forum officer Isaac David with a knife on his neck.

Mr. Tarr told reporters on Monday that the incident happened on Sunday evening in Jorkor Town in electoral district two when the deceased went to carry out an arrest in the town.

Also speaking, the general town chief, Moses Dehyah said there was a fight in the town and he asked the late David to go into the town and put the situation under control.

According to Mr. Dehyah, when the officer got into the town, he arrested and handcuffed a man identified as Gardyu for starting violence in the area.

While the man was on the cuff, he stated that the alleged murderer took the knife from his side and stabbed him to death the community watch forum officer.

Furthermore, it was reported that due to the death of the officer, some people believed to be residents of another town in the district allegedly burned down about eight houses and eleven kitchens.

But it is yet to be established who are those people responsible for committing the arson as no arrest has been done so far by the police.

Currently, only nine houses remain unburned with a church in the area.

Meanwhile, the alleged murderer is in police custody awaiting investigation.

BUCHANAN: May 13, 2023- Former Grand Bassa County Senator, Gbehzohngar Milton Findley has termed as untrue the information circulating in the public that he told Ambassador Joseph Boakai not to select Senator Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence as his running mate.

According to Hon. Findley, at no time he told anyone that the Unity Party Standard Bearer, ambassador Boakai should not take Senator Lawrence for the running mate position for the October 10 presidential and legislative elections.

"I challenge those who are spreading the falsehood to face me and provide evidence of the information they have provided to the public", Findley noted.

Hon Findley added. "If Boakai had chosen Senator Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence as his running mate, I would support the ticket".

The former foreign affairs minister mentioned that he has an issue with the selection of Senator Jeremiah Koung as his running mate.

"If Senator Lawrence is selected by another person as running mate, I will support her 1-hundred percent in the elections", he stressed.

In another development, Dr.Milton Gbehzohngar has announced his candidacy for the senatorial seat of Bassa.

"I will be contesting as an independent candidate in the upcoming elections,if anything changes regarding whether I will go as an independent candidate or not, I will inform the public,"he concluded.

GRAND BASSA RESIDENT JUDGE WANTS JUDGES ACROSS LIBERIA TO SERVE FOR LIFE.

Buchanan- (May 9, 2023)-The Resident Judge of the Second Judicial Circuit Court in Grand Bassa Couty Joe Barkon is recommending that the constitutional term for Chief Justice, the Associate Justices, and circuit court judges be revised through a referendum to allow them to hold office for life.

By law, their constitutional term is enshrined in Article 72b of the 1986 constitution.

In his recommendation, Judge Barkon said that Judges, associate Justices, and Chief Justice should be removed from office upon impeachment and conviction by the national legislature based on proven misconduct or inability to serve.

Delivering his charge on Monday, May 8 at the opening of the May term of court in Upper Buchanan, Judge Barkon said the rationale for the recommendation is to bring stability and effectiveness to the Supreme Court bench in disposing of cases for a longer period.

At the same time, the Grand Bassa resident Judge said the tenure of magistrates should be extended beyond four years as provided in session 7.5 of other new judicial laws of Liberia.

According to him, when that is done, magistrates across the country will have job security and independence rather than being uncertain about reappointment or dismissal.

Buchanan: May 7, 2023- Representative aspirant Togar Alexander Bealded is calling on Senator Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence to run for the presidency in the October 10 presidential and legislative elections.

According to Mr. Bealded, since Ambassador Joseph Boakai, standard bearer of the Unity Party did not select Senator Lawrence as vice running mate, he wants her to run for the presidency.

"I will support her to the fullest if she accepts my recommendation to contest for the presidency", he stressed.

He added. "Senator Lawerence was a backbone for Ambassador Boakai's election but was not chosen in the political marriage for the ensuing elections, so let her get in the presidential race".

BASSA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS HONORED REPRESENTATIVE MATTHEW JOE; PETITIONED HIM TO RE-CONTEST.

BUCHANAN( May 6, 2023) More than 5-hundred students of the Bassa High School in Buchanan have petitioned Representative Matthew Joe for the October 10, 2023, legislative and presidential elections

The petition was done on Friday, May 5, after they honored the lawmaker for the tremendous work he has done since his ascendency as a lawmaker for Buchanan district.

Reading the statement of honor, Student Janjay Venn said the lawmaker has always and continues to pay their fees in various high schools in the county.

Student Venn also mentioned the elevation of the only higher institution of learning in the county, the Grand Bassa University as an effort by Representative Joe.

In her statement, she lauded the lawmaker for fulfilling his 2017 campaign promise by buying the student bus, which she said is helping them.

"Based on these and other major developments the lawmaker has initiated, we the students of the Bassa High School petitioned you to re-contest and we will stand by you to ensure that you win", she added.

For his part, Representative Joe with joy accepted the petition and appreciated the students for the unexpected honor bestowed upon him.

"Thank God that you recognized my contribution towards your education," he expressed.

The 'Talk and Do' representative as he is called promised the students two additional buses if he is retained.

REPRESENTATIVE MATTHEW JOE DONATES TO MUSLIMS IN GRAND BASSA COUNTY.

Buchanan (April 21, 2023) The sitting lawmaker of electoral district three, Grand Bassa County has donated a sheep to Muslims in the county.

Representative Joe also presented 10 bags of 25 kg of rice to the Muslims.

The donations were done on Friday at the Doris Williams Sports Pitch during the climax of the holy month of Ramadan.

Presenting the items, Hon. Joe stated that the donation is his way of identifying with the Muslims for their one-month fast in which they prayed for the country.

According to the Buchanan district representative, the items donated were valued at over 4- hundred and 70 united states dollars.

Taking delivery of the items, the chairman of the Muslim council Mr. Ayouba Kamara commended the representative for the gesture.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kamara assured Representative Joe of the Muslim community's commitment to whatever process he is involved with.

BEALDED INITIATIVE (BUILD) PROVIDES BAGS OF RICE AND CASH TO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS AHEAD OF WASSCE

Buchanan: A team representing Representative Hopeful, Togar Alexander Bealded, has presented bags of rice and cash to two high schools in Buchanan ahead of WASSCE.

They made the presentation to JC Early United Methodist School and St. Peter Claver Catholic School to the admiration of students, teachers, and administrators.

Yangah Harris, Bealded’s Campaign Manager, and Samuel Jacob, Media Operations for BUILD said this is the Bealded United Initiative for Lasting Development (BUILD) initial start-up support to high schools ahead of WASSCE slated for May this year. “More schools to benefit,” they stated.

“Though out of the country on a business trip, Hon. Togar Alexander Bealded remains very concerned about continuously supporting youths and students initiatives across Grand Bassa,” Yangah Harris said during the presentation.

Like last year, Bealded provided rice and cash to all ten high schools in Buchanan which made indelible marks amongst students who had to study together ahead of WASSCE and needed support with feeding.

Bealded is a graduate of St. Peter Claver Catholic School Buchanan, born and raised in Bassa, and one of several persons aspiring for the Representative seat of Buchanan City.

He’s canvassing on the mantra of job creation, continuous advocacy for electricity for Buchanan and youth, disabled and women empowerment as well as peace and reconciliation.

Many students, teachers, and administrators spoke to have applauded the decision of Hon. Bealded for supporting such a cause, for the second year running.

A member of the Liberian delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament, Senator Jonathan Kaipay has called on that body to treat electricity distribution in West African Member States as a regional emergency.

He says the ECOWAS Parliament must work out all necessary modalities for solving the electricity problem across the West African Region as the surest way to alleviate poverty in West Africa.

Senator Kaipay’s call was contained in his address to members of the West African Parliament during the parliament’s Tuesday, March 22, 2023 sitting of the 5th Joint Legislative Committee Meeting.

The 5th Joint Legislative Committee Meeting is ongoing in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Sen. Kaipay said the need for Economic Community of West African States Parliament to take into serious consideration electricity distribution can not be overemphasized, “it will redeem ordinary people from the darkness, insecurity and poverty” - Sen. Jonathan Kaipay.

ECOWAS HOLDS THE 5TH JOINT COMMITTEE MEETING IN SIERRA LEONE.

Freetown-March 22, 2023- Three Lawmakers of Liberia are currently in Sierraleone attending the 5th Joint legislature Committee meeting of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Senator Jonathan Kaipay of Grand Bassa County and Representative Clarence Massaquoi of Lofa and Edwin Snowe are representing Liberia at the regional assembly.

The three Liberian lawmakers are amongst more than 30 members of the ECOWAS parliament in Sierra Leone to discuss key sectors of the regional body.

Countries represented by their lawmakers are Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.

The Joint committee meeting started on Monday, March 20, 2023, in the capital of Sierraleone and is expected to last up to 25th, March.

The 5th legislature delocalized meeting is held under the theme: Building the regional energy market for just every transition.

Its main focus is to look at energy and mines, agriculture, environment and natural resources, infrastructure, industry, and the private sector.

The fifth Ecowas joint committee meeting will also discuss public accounts, macroeconomic policy and economic research administration, finance and budget, and health.

GRAND BASSA COUNTY CIVIL SOCIETY CHAIRMAN ACCUSED OF CORRUPTION.

BUCHANAN- March 16, 2023-The Assistant Minister for American Affairs at the foreign Ministry, Hon Maxwell Vah has accused the civil society chairman of Grand Bassa County of corruption.

Minister Vah accused Mr. Barley Tokpah of misappropriation of government’s money when he served as Development Superintendent during Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf regime.

"Mr.Tokpah was indicted by the General Auditing Commission for corruption malpractice, stating that he has not been acquitted", Minister Vah added.

Minister Vah stated. "Mr. Barley Tokpah was told to restitute the money that he misapplied. But, Mr. Tokpah has not yet replaced the money".

Based on his alleged corrupt act, the Assistant Minister is calling on Superintendent Janjay Baikpeh and other county officials to not honor any communication under the signature of Mr.Tokpah.

At the same time, he is calling on Mr. Barley Tokpah to resign his post as Chairman because he doesn't have the moral standing to be the head of the CSO in the county.

For his part, Mr. Barely Tokpah has challenged Assistant Minister Maxwell Vah to prove his allegation of corruption against him.

"If Minister Vah can prove his allegation that I was caught by GAC in act of corruption, I will resign my post without delay", he stressed.

Mr.Tokpah termed minister Vah allegation as something that does not have any foundation of truth telling.

Tokpa elucidated. "During my time as Development Superintendent, I received 1- Million United States dollars which was properly managed".

In his clarification, he said that he has never been indicted by GAC and found guilty of corruption as claimed by minister Vah.

The former Development Superintendent, who is now the Civil Society Chairman of Grand Bassa County, mentioned that if minister Vah feels that he was indicted, he should take the GAC report to court.

SUPERINTENDENT JANJAY BAIKPEH TO RELINQUISH HIS POSITION BEFORE APRIL 7.

BUCHANAN- March 16, 2023- Grand Bassa County Superintendent Janjay Baikpeh says he will resign before April seven to contest in Electoral district two as per the mandate of President George Weah.

President George Manneh Weah on Tuesday announced that all appointed officials of the government aspiring to contest elective positions in the impending October 10, 2023, Presidential and Legislative Elections to resign on or before April 7, 2023.

The President’s order contained in Executive Order #117 issued Tuesday, March 14, 2023, is consistent with amended Sections 5.2 and 10.2 of the 2014 Code of Conduct enacted, approved and printed in handbills on December 29, 2022.

According to him, it is presidential mandate issued that all appointed Officials of government who wants to contest should resign before April 7, something he said he will obey.

Speaking Wednesday with Reporters at the fairgrounds in Buchanan, he said from now to April 7, he will no longer be seen at the Administrative building as Superintendent of the county.

Superintendent Baikpeh mentioned that he will focus on his election in district two by moving from house to house to ensure that he gets elected as the next Lawmaker of the district.

BUCHANAN- March 16, 2023 Representative Matthew Joe of electoral district three, Grand Bassa County has announced the pavement of the New York Street road leading to the Liberian government hospital in Buchanan.

Hon. Joe made the pronouncement on Wednesday when he was endorsed by cross section of citizens at the pavilion on the fairgrounds in Buchanan to seek re-election in this year presidential and legislative elections slated for October 10.

Besides the LGH road, Representative Joe also said to that the road from the Monrovia Junction to Flower Mill and New Buchanan will be paved.

Though, the district representative was not clear as to when the pavement of the roads will begin, but said the Public Works Minister has assured him that it will be done soon.

Also, the incumbent Lawmaker thanked the citizens and residents of the district for turning out in their numbers to endorse his representative bid.

The CDC Lawmaker who expressed happiness for the turnout said that much love was shown to him by the citizens.

TRIPLE TWO, 29, GOES TO PRISON FOR ARM ROBBERY

BUCHANAN: March 2, 2023 -A Notorious Criminal in Grand Bassa County known as Seth Koosono has been sentenced for ten years for arm robbery.

Seth Koosono popularly called Triple two was sentenced on Wednesday at the Second Judicial Circuit Court in Upper Buchanan in accordance with section 15.54 and 15.32 of the New Penal Law of Liberia.

The defendant was brought before the court on February 15 and pleaded guilty of the crime of armed robbery.

The 7th grade dropped out man admitted of armed robbing one Musa Jallah and others by taking away many Itel phones and cash between July 31 to August 2, 2022 in Taye Town and Buchanan City respectively.

But, Judge Barkon said plea was set aside since the offense was a capital offense, consistent with Chapter 16, Section 16.4 of the Criminal Procedure Law of Liberia.

Rendering his final Judgment, the resident Judge, Cllr. Joe S. Barkon said Triple two will serve his sentence at the prison compound in Upper Buchanan

According to his sentence, during the last six months of his ten years, he shall be released to the Division of Probation Services for Probation and rehabilitation purposes.

The 29 years old Triple Two was tried by jurors and found guilty.

The presiding judge, Joe S. Barkon affirmed the verdict of the trial jurors.

"I'M NOT AN OLD CAR PARKED IN THE GARAGE," VP JEWEL HOWARD TAYLOR SAYS.

BUCHANAN: March 2, 2023- Liberia's vice president Madam Jewel Howard Taylor says she is not an old car parked in the garage but very functional in the CDC led government.

According to Madam Taylor, Former Vice president Joseph Boakai said he was parked as an old car in the garage during Sirleaf’s regime, but as for her, she is not park as an old car.

VP Taylor also said that she is on her feet touring the counties, noting that president George Weah has done well.

VP Taylor said on Wednesday in Buchanan that there is no argument about the good things president Weah has done.

She said the difficulties amongst people in Bassa will not be allowed to skim the president's reputation.

She mentioned that Bassa can be one if everyone comes together.

WADIA MASSOUND DESCRIBES CLLR. CHARLYNE BRUMSKINE AS AN INEXPERIENCED POLITICIAN.

BUCHANAN: March 2, 2023- The Chairman of the National Patriotic Party in Grand Bassa County, Wadia Massound has described Cllr. Charlyne Brumskine as an inexperienced politician.

Mr. Massound said Cllr. Charlyne behavior regarding what happened recently at her residence in Upper Buchanan by saying that someone invaded her home showed her inexperience in politics.

According to him, he condemned the act if someone invaded her home, but said for her to accused Representative Matthew Joe as the person who masterminded the act demonstrated her inexperience.

The NPP Bassa chairman noted that Cllr. Charlyne as a politician has to be strong, and desist from concluding into situation when it happens.

"WE ARE READY TO FACE AUDIT", BSA CHARIMAN JERRY VONYEGAR DISCLOSES.

BUCHANAN: March 2, 2023- The leadership of the Bassa Sports Association says they are willing to face audit for money they received for the 2022/2023 National County Sports meet.

Speaking recently on behalf of the BSA leadership, the Chairman, Jerry Vonyegar said they are ready to submit to an audit anytime the county authority and the caucus deem necessary.

According to Mr. Vonyeagar, they have every document to prove how money received was used.

He mentioned that they are fully prepared to account for the amount of 8 – Hundred 77- Thousand 80 Liberian dollars they received during the 2022/2023 county meet.

NOTORIOUS CRIMINAL, TRIPLE TWO PLEADED GUILTY FOR THE CRIME OF ARMED ROBBERY.

BUCHANAN: FEB.16, 2023- A notorious criminal in Grand Bassa County identified as Seth Koosomo has pleaded guilty for the commission of the crime of armed robbery.

Seth Koosomo alias Triple Two is on trial at the Second Judicial Court in Upper Buchanan where he pleaded guilty for the crime of armed robbery.

Triple two admitted of armed robbing one Musa Jallah and others by taking away many Itel phones and cash between July 31 to August 2, 2022 in Taye Town and Buchanan City respectively.

The defendant was brought before the court on Wednesday, February 15 and pleaded guilty of the crime of armed robbery.

But, the presiding Judge, Joe S. Barkon set aside his guilty plea and requested prosecution to proceed with the production of evidence since the offense charged is a capital offense, consistent with Chapter 16, Section 16.4 of the Criminal Procedure Law of Liberia.

Prosecution will present its first two witnesses and trial continues today.

STEEL GIANT DONATES BRAND NEW VEHICLE TO THE POLICE IN BASSA.

BUCHANAN: Feb.15, 2023- ArcelorMittal Liberia has donated a brand new Hilux Toyota four doors pickup to the police in Grand Bassa County.

The donation was done on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at the headquarters of the police on the Fairgrounds in Buchanan.

Presenting the vehicle on behalf of AML phase two logistics, Leslie Dodds said it is the company own way of buttressing the efforts of national government.

Receiving the vehicle, the regional commander for Rivercess, Margibi and Grand Grand Bassa Counties, Mr. Saikor Freeman thanked AML for the donation.

Mr. Freeman said the vehicle will now help the police in doing their work by protecting lives and properties.

SUPERINTENDENT BAIKPEH DISTANCE SENATOR KAIPAY FROM POWER THEFT, BLAST HIS FOLLOWER FOR SPREADING LIES.

BUCHANAN: Feb.13, 2023- Justin Tarr, a Confederate of superintendent Janjay Baikpeh accuses Senator Jonathan Kaipay of taking current from the electricity grid of the CLSG line
opposite the senator’s residence.

But, Superintendent Janjay Baikpeh has distanced Senator Jonathan Kaipay from the allegation linking him of taking electricity from the CLSG Line situated in Taye Town outside Buchanan.

"It's not possible for Senator Kaipay to take current from the CLSG line without seen a trace of it", he added.

"Whether my supporter not supporter, Janjay Baikpeh doesn't have a supporter, the CDC has a supporter".

Superintendent Baikpeh mentioned. "Justin Tarr doesn't bear my picture as his profile picture, he wrote as a citizen".

"All I'm saying is, I'm going to discourage these lies against our leaders, I will not sit here to allow anyone to blatantly lie on the Senator without any facts associated with the allegation", Superintendent Baikpeh expressed.

"What Justin Tarr said is untrue, and it came from the belly of the Devil".

Meanwhile, he is calling on those who are always spreading falsehood against character of others to desist.
