Trokon A. Freeman writes!

Shockingly, a member of the River Cess Legislative Caucus told me in confidence that Representative Rosana G. D. H. Schaack is the best leader he has ever worked with, and any mistake to not re-elect her would create a serious leadership gap at the level of that body.
The lawmaker said: “As a caucus chair, she has managed to unite every member”.
“There’s no noise in the caucus because of her”.
“You don’t need to remind her when she’s to do something”.

That decision to keep her serving in the legislature is in the hands of the people (the electorates). That person could be right because women’s leadership has proved to be more impactful than men's, but let’s see how it pays off at the polls on October 10.

District Commissioner Distances Himself from ‘Plank Committee’

By J. Oliver S. Zeegen (0886891498)

Commissioner Jones Nagbo of the Doedain Administrative District has distanced himself from a ‘plank committee’ said to be headed by a resident known as Human Right.

Nagbe said after the first committee was dissolved, it was earlier planned to have a new one constituted, but he got sick and left Monweh to seek medical care, at which time the “Human Right” committee was set up.

The commissioner told the Voice of Monweh that he’s yet to receive from report the district superintendent and the person left in charge during his and his absence.

“In no time I have been part of the newly appointed plank committee headed by one Human Right as he is commonly called”.

“After the first plank committee that was headed by Mr. Garseedai Y. Darsaw was dissolved, it was a plan on the way for us to constitute another committee to take responsibility of collecting the plank tow from plank sawyers”.

“In that time, I got sick and left the district for about ten (10) consecutive months and returned in May. At which the new committee was set up”.

I haven’t received any document from my acting commissioner at the time about any such thing nor the office of the statutory district superintendent, Hon. Robertson”.

Commissioner Nagbe made the assertion when he appeared on VOM recently.

“Human Right, the man said to be in charge of the plank committee, is yet to comment on the matter.

Joint Security in Monweh Alarms over Lack of Manpower, Logistics

By Daniel P. F. Sando, II (0888106699)

The joint security at the only police depot in Monweh Statutory District, River Cess County has alarmed over the lack of manpower, logistics and operational fund to enhance security operations.

Speaking to VOM recently in Boegeezay Town, the district police commander Joseph P. Jipply alias Baby Police said he has informed his bosses on the situation, but he is yet to get redress.

Jipply, who is the only police officer in Monweh, is calling on authorities of the Liberia National Police to strengthen the capacity of the LNP in the area in order to robustly respond to crimes.

“I am not feeling fine that I am the only LNP officer here, and three officers from LDEA and absolutely no LIS officers”.

For his part, the commander of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency in Monweh, Agent George Gboahi has similarly spoken of limited LDEA personnel and logistics.

In another development, the LDEA has arrested and transferred a suspected drug dealer only identified as Naija to Cestos City after he was allegedly seen with narcotic substances.

Burden Removed?
‘500’ Students in River Cess to Benefit Registration Fees from Three Gov’t Officials

In an effort to boost enrollment in public schools, three officials of the CDC-led government have made a commitment to pay registration fees for all students desirous of attending the Cestos High School in River Cess this academic year. Cestos High is the oldest public school in River Cess County.

The pronouncement was made during the weekend at the official launch of Team Ruth Coker Collins for Weah’s Reelection in Cestos City, amidst huge applauds from jubilant students and parents. Committed to the second term bid of President Weah, the group is the biggest auxiliary of the governing Coalition for Democratic Change in River Cess.

The three officials of government are Madam Ruth Coker-Collins, Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah and Cllr. Charles Gibson, Ministers of Public Works, Health and Labor, respectively. They are among prominent citizens of River Cess serving in the Weah Administration.

Speaking at the event, Minister Coker-Collins said it was an honor serving in the government, and one of the ways to show appreciation was by contributing to their county, mainly in the area of education.

Education at government secondary schools is free, but students are required to pay between L$2,000 and L$3,000. Some students cannot afford this amount due to poor livelihood. This intervention would cost the duo about L$1.2 million.

Mr. J. Kwame Ben Yarley, principal of the school said the gesture was timely considering the harsh economic reality. According to Yalley, such move would serve as a relief to struggling parents and students during the 2023/2024 school year.
“I’m so impressed. I’m so happy for this great opportunity to be afforded our students. It will serve as a motivation to them”.

The principal in an interview with journalists in Cestos minutes following the pronouncement, said the administration had project 500 students as the total enrollment this year. When asked how the projection was derived, Yalley revealed that the enrollment last academic year was 335 students, but said the projection was on the basis of a motivation package provided to high school students by the World Bank. Under the “Improving Results in Secondary Education (IRISE)”, the principal said, each senior high student will receive US$295, this he believes will increase enrollment.

Monweh Citizens Want Local Authorities Out of ‘Land Rental’ Account

By Daniel Sando

Citizens of Boegeezay Town in Monweh Statutory District have asked local government officials to have their signatures removed from a bank account opened to receive land rental from Lone Star Cell/MTN.

The GSM company acquired a piece of land in Boegeezay Town for the construction of its transmission towel. The leading GSM provider pays an undisclosed amount to the people of the town in land rental. It’s said the commissioner and district superintendent are signatories to the account.

Citizens are said to be agitating over reported mismanagement of money received in land rental.

Speaking in an interview with VOM news in Boegeezay Town recently, the spokesperson of the aggrieved citizens, Marcus Faah said it has been long since they received seven thousand Liberian dollars from the company.

He’s calling for the replacement of local officials who are signatories to the community account.

Meanwhile, Doedain Administrative Commissioner Jones Nagbo has said he met a zero balance in the Boegeezay Town coffers.

Appearing on VOM recently, Commissioner Nagbo narrated that the agreement with Lone Star Cell/MTN was already signed by his predecessors before assuming office.

“When I assumed power in May of 2018, the agreement with Lone Star communication was already signed by my predecessor, and the statutory district superintendent”.

The commissioner said he didn’t meet any money in the account; hence, he cannot take responsibility for money collected before his appointment.

River Cess district ‘1’ struggles with one police officer

An investigation conducted by Voice of Monweh FM 98.5 has established that the entire River Cess district ‘1’ is struggling with only one assigned Liberia National Police officer.

The officer’s name is Joseph P. Jiplly, alias Baby Police. He’s the commander and runs all police operations, including women and children protection, traffic control, and crime services at a depot in Boegeezay.

Due to the understaffing, personnel representing the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, Liberia Immigration Services and Community Watch Forum are playing the role of LNP officers in the district.

The United Nations recommends a police-population ratio of one police officer to 450 citizens, but authorities of the Liberia National Police had said they lack the capacity to have more officers deployed across the country.

England captain Harry Kane had only three touches and made little impact as his new club Bayern Munich lost 3-0 to RB Leipzig in his debut match.

Only hours after completing his £86m move from Tottenham on Saturday, the striker came on as 64th-minute substitute to a huge cheer at the Allianz Arena.

In a related development, England midfielder Jude Bellingham scored on his competitive Real Madrid debut as they began their La Liga season with victory at Athletic Bilbao.

The 20-year-old, who joined the Spanish giants for £88.5m from Borussia Dortmund this summer, got Real's second when he volleyed in from close range.

He is the first English player to score in a competitive game for Real since David Beckham in 2007.
