Police Confirm Minor Was Tempered in Youth & Sports Ministry R**e Probe—Deputy Minister Under Scrutiny

By Melvin Jackson

Monrovia, Liberia – September 17, 2025 — The Liberia National Police has confirmed that the minor at the center of the alleged r**e scandal involving the Ministry of Youth and Sports was indeed tampered with, intensifying public outrage and calls for accountability.

Inspector General Gregory Coleman disclosed that while the child was violated, investigators have not yet confirmed whether Deputy Minister for Youth Development, Bryant McGill, was directly responsible. He emphasized that medical and forensic evidence will be critical in determining the full scope of the crime.

“We are committed to a thorough, impartial investigation,” Coleman stated, urging the public to remain calm as the process unfolds.

The case has triggered widespread condemnation, particularly due to the alleged involvement of a senior government official. IG Coleman, alongside officials from the Ministry of Gender, confirmed that investigators have interviewed the victim, the accused, and family members to verify the claims. McGill has not been arrested but is reportedly cooperating with authorities.

No formal charges have been filed, but police have petitioned the court for a search warrant to examine the accused’s cell phones for forensic evidence.

The Ministry of Gender has also called for swift and transparent action, reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence A. Meanwhile, disturbing audio recordings released by the victim’s father have further galvanized public demand for justice B.

The Liberia National Police has pledged to keep the public informed as more facts emerge.

HERE WE GO AGAIN!
The U.S. Department of State (DOS) announced today that, beginning October 16, 2025, all individuals registering for the Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery (or “green card lottery”) must pay a $1 electronic registration fee. This is the first time that participants will be charged simply to enter the annual lottery.

The change is intended to distribute the costs of managing the DV lottery more evenly across all registrants, instead of placing the burden only on the small number of applicants who are selected to apply for a visa.

The new policy comes just before the registration period for the 2027 DV lottery, which opens in early October (exact dates to be announced by DOS).
