LNP adjusts "Movement Restriction for Motorcyclists" in Ganta

By: Chester Dolo

Ganta, Nimba County – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has announced a significant adjustment to the ongoing temporary restriction on the movement of commercial motorbikes in Ganta. The new regulation, issued by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Larmie Mendin, General County Commander of the Nimba Police Headquarters, extends the curfew from 10:00 PM to 12:00 midnight.

The change, effective immediately, follows extensive consultations and appeals from community stakeholders who argued that the previous restriction was too early, inconveniencing commuters and businesses.

The restriction was initially introduced as a security measure following the tragic shooting to death of two motorcyclists by unknown armed robbers who made away with their bikes. The measure aims to ensure the safety of citizens, particularly during the festive season when crime rates traditionally increase.

ACP Mendin emphasized the importance of adherence to the new regulation, urging motorcyclists and commuters to avoid the streets after the mandatory curfew to prevent clashes with law enforcement.

Stakeholders have welcomed the adjustment, viewing it as a compromise that balances security concerns with the economic needs of motorcyclists and their customers.

The LNP has assured residents of heightened patrols and surveillance during this period to curb crime and maintain order.

Meanwhile, the public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities to local authorities as part of a collective effort to ensure community safety.

This temporary measure will remain in place until further notice, as authorities continue to evaluate its impact on security in Ganta.

SPECIAL PRESS STATEMENT FROM SENATOR PRINCE Y. JOHNSON.

"My fellow citizens, in November 2017, we signed an agreement with the Congress For Democratic Change to give the party our political support.

In the agreement we signed up for top Ministerial posts, Managing Directors and some ambassadorial positions to be given to Nimba or President George Weah should appoint sons and daughters from Nimba County to occupy these top positions through our recommendations.

Since the CDC lead government came to power in 2018, we are yet to see sons and daughters from our beloved Nimba County in those top senior positions we agreed upon and signed a document as evidence.

The citizens of Nimba have for the past five years been knocking at my door for the president to appoint them, and we have used all diplomatic means and have consistently engaged this CDC lead government, but nothing is working in order to get redress and make our people who struggled during the campaign period happy!

Once again my fellow citizens of Nimba and supporters in Liberia and around the World, we like to take this time to inform you that the agreement we signed with the CDC has come to an end!

So for and on behalf of the great people Nimba and all partisans of the MDR Political Party, we are now constrained to make this pronouncement that we are "HALTING OUR POLITICAL SUPPORT" to the Coalition!

As a former general in the army, we believe in agreement and don't like to betray what we have agreed upon, so we ask you to remain calm until we can later inform you about where to go.

God bless the great people of Nimba and God bless Liberia."

“As you know, we have already started the construction of the Concentrator, to take our production up to 15mpta and then further up to 30mpt. It will generate a lot of value for us. Speaking on behalf of residents and citizens of the area, Camp -4 Township Commissioner, Rebecca Mulbah expressed gratitude to the management of ArcelorMittal Liberia for funding the construction of the town hall and football pitch, which she said will benefit residents of the area immensely.
She noted that the Town hall will be used for the hosting of important occasions and events that would benefit the township while the soccer pitch will benefit, most especially the young people who have so much passion for paying soccer and engaging in other social activities.

Also speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, the Representative of that district (District 3) Honorable Joseph Nyan Somwarbi expressed gratitude to the management of AML for the two projects and other programs which he said his district and its people have greatly benefited from over the years.

The Nimba District 3 Lawmaker in whose district Arcelor Mittal is based praised the company for the two projects, stating that they (the projects) are evidence of a "new day for the company and the people of its mining-impact communities".
