‎Monrovia – Despite the conclusion of the Liberia National Police (LNP) investigation and multiple criminal charges against University of Liberia staff Fobay Emery Johnson in connection with an alleged armed robbery at Ecobank’s 11th Street, Sinkor branch, Information Minister Hon. Jerolinmek Piah is calling for additional questioning of the bank’s staff.

‎Speaking at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) press conference on Tuesday, Minister Piah questioned several aspects of the incident, raising concerns about possible lapses in the bank’s internal security.
‎
‎The minister raised questions about how Johnson was able to enter a private banking room without being noticed.
‎
‎ “The police need to ask the bank staff some thorough questions,” Piah said. “How did the alleged armed robber enter the private banking room wearing a mask without anyone noticing?”
‎
‎He also questioned why the office door locked automatically when the suspect entered and why it took so long for help to arrive during the struggle between Johnson and the victim.
‎
‎The minister’s comments come after the LNP charged Johnson with armed robbery, criminal attempt to commit murder, and possession and sale of physical objects for lethal use under Liberia’s revised penal code.
‎
‎According to the official police report, Johnson entered a private banking room and attacked Angeline L. Sillah, a 33-year-old Eco-bank accountant, while armed with a single-barrel shotgun. He was reportedly wearing a nose mask and head covering during the assault.
‎
Minister Piah’s remarks suggest that he believes the police report is incomplete, stressing the need for more detailed statements from Ecobank employees who were on duty at the time of the attack.
‎
‎His concerns echo those of some members of the public, who have expressed doubts over certain aspects of the case. Some citizens have pointed to inconsistencies in the color of Johnson’s clothing shown in security footage.
‎
‎Others have also questioned the police report, asking why statements from Ecobank staff who were on duty were not included in the findings.
‎
‎Meanwhile, ICT expert and a social media user, Robertson Siaway has urged financial institutions to improve their real-time security monitoring systems.
‎
‎“Ecobank-Liberia, please hire someone to monitor your CCTV cameras in real time,” said Siaway on social media. “The response time was very poor, and the worst could have happened. Thank God the lady had the strength to fight.”
‎
‎The case continues to draw public attention, with growing calls for transparency.
