Yekepa, Nimba County – In a landmark development for healthcare in northern Liberia, surgical services have officially resumed at the ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) Yekepa Hospital, bringing renewed hope to thousands of residents in and around the mining community.
After several months of preparation, the hospital’s newly renovated surgical ward opened its doors this week, equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology designed to meet international standards. The resumption of services was marked by two successful surgical procedures performed earlier today—both a testament to the skill and dedication of the hospital’s medical team.
The comprehensive upgrade included the installation of modern operating tables, advanced anesthesia machines, improved lighting systems, and upgraded sterilization equipment. These improvements are aimed at not only increasing the hospital’s capacity but also ensuring safer, more efficient surgical outcomes for patients.
ArcelorMittal Liberia has hailed the milestone as a reflection of its ongoing commitment to community health and well-being. Company officials expressed deep gratitude to the leadership team, healthcare professionals, and technical experts who worked tirelessly to bring the project to completion.
"We are proud to deliver world-class surgical care right here in Yekepa," the company stated. "Together, we are building healthier futures for our employees, their families, and the entire community."
The reinstatement of surgical services means residents in Yekepa and surrounding towns will no longer need to travel long distances to access critical surgical care, reducing both the financial and health risks associated with delayed treatment. Community members have already welcomed the move, describing it as a “lifeline” for the region.
With this advancement, AML Yekepa Hospital is set to play an even more vital role in improving healthcare access, saving lives, and strengthening the overall health system in Nimba County.
