LTA Advances Redelegation Process for Liberia’s .lr Country Code Top‑Level Domain

Monrovia, Liberia — August 17, 2026

The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has received a comprehensive debrief from its ccTLD Consultant following a week‑long consultation on the redelegation of Liberia’s Country Code Top‑Level Domain (.lr). The update marks a major step in Liberia’s ongoing effort to strengthen national ownership, governance, and security of its digital identity.

The briefing to the LTA Board of Commissioners was delivered by Mr. Olu Olutola, who outlined the proposed governance and operational framework, key policy considerations, and the immediate actions required to advance Liberia’s redelegation request to the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).

Under the proposed model, policy and oversight responsibilities will be jointly held by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MoPT) and the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA). The LTA will lead registrar accreditation and submit Liberia’s formal redelegation request to ICANN/IANA. Technical operations will be managed by an independent, board‑governed Registry Operator — the Liberian Internet Domain Registry (LIDR). A Multi‑Stakeholder Advisory Council (MSAC), comprising representatives from government, industry, academia, civil society, and the technical community, will support policy development and consensus‑building.

The consultant highlighted several areas of policy and technical readiness, including:

* Development of a comprehensive .lr Policy Framework
* Establishment of the Registry Operator and its governance structure
* Deployment of secure and resilient DNS infrastructure
* Registrar accreditation and testing
* Integration of registration data services

Immediate priorities include circulating the draft .lr Policy Framework to MSAC members for structured, time‑bound review; convening an LTA executive working session to finalize outstanding policy, legal, and regulatory matters; and consolidating stakeholder inputs for submission to the LTA Board for formal adoption.

The LTA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that Liberia’s .lr domain is administered in the public interest and supports a secure, stable, accessible, and sustainable national digital ecosystem.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA — The Unity Party (UP) has appointed Senator Prince Karmue Moye as Chairperson of the committee responsible for overseeing the party’s upcoming regional leadership elections in Lofa County.

According to an appointment letter dated August 10, 2026, and signed by the Office of the National Chairman of the Unity Party, Senator Moye has been tasked with overseeing and conducting the regional leadership elections, which are scheduled to take place between August 20 and August 30, 2026.

The Unity Party said Senator Moye’s appointment is based on his proven leadership, integrity, and commitment to democratic principles.

The letter emphasized that the committee will play a vital role in ensuring that the party selects a strong, legitimate, and unified regional leadership team in Lofa County.

Among the responsibilities outlined for the committee is maintaining complete neutrality throughout the electoral process by treating all candidates equally and avoiding conflicts of interest.

The committee is also expected to strictly comply with the Unity Party Constitution and applicable national electoral laws governing internal party elections.

Additionally, the committee has been instructed to ensure transparent management of voting materials and other logistical arrangements associated with the elections.

LTA Commissioner Patrick Honnah identifies with Community Radio Stations.

MONROVIA, Liberia — Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) Commissioner Patrick Honnah has provided financial support to several community radio stations across Liberia, in an effort to strengthen community radio and motivate local journalists working at the grassroots level.

Honnah, a former renowned broadcast journalist, said community radio plays an essential role in advancing the government’s development agenda by serving as a voice for ordinary Liberians and providing communities with access to information and opportunities for personal empowerment.

He said the support is intended to recognize the important role community radio journalists play, often with limited resources and largely voluntary services, in informing and engaging communities across the country.

Honnah said he intends to continue working with community radio journalists as part of his effort to help communicate government programs and development initiatives to ordinary people.

As former media practitioner Commissioner Honnah said he feels obligated to media development adding that government cannot do everything and as an official, he is looking into his limited resources to make the intervention where necessary to assist media houses especially at the community level.

He called on the community radio practitioners to continue to highlight the significant development of President Joseph Boakai.

"Media institutions don't have to lie about what the President is doing, as you can see significant development across this country is unprecedented" he maintained.

Commission Honnah believes if the communities are adequately and realistically informed, they will continue to make decisions to move the country forward.

Receiving the support on behalf of the beneficiaries, Radio Kwatekeh General Manager and CEO Papa Morris thanked Commissioner Honnah for the gesture.

Morris said the decision to support community radio journalists demonstrates that Honnah has not forgotten his roots in the media despite his current role in government.

He said the assistance will serve as a motivation for community radio journalists who continue to provide information and give citizens a platform to discuss issues affecting their communities.

The initiative is expected to further strengthen collaboration between community radio practitioners and stakeholders working to promote public information and community development in Liberia.

Mr. Papa Morris recalled that from Mr. Honnah days at the Liberia Broadcasting System, he has remained in constant contact with huge segment of the community radio practitioners by calling to check on them.

Papa maintained that local media practitioners do not see their relationship with Mr. Honnah based financial assistance but has graduated to family status.

Executive Mansion, Monrovia:– President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has acknowledged the communication from the Minister of Justice and Attorney General regarding the recusal of the Officer in Charge of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitzgerald T. M. Biago.

Following a review of the communication, the President has directed the Minister of Justice to immediately launch a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the allegations and all related circumstances surrounding the matter.

The Minister of Justice has been instructed to submit a detailed report to the President within forty eight (48) hours.

President Boakai reaffirmed that his Administration remains unwavering in its fight against illegal drugs, organized crime, and corruption, and emphasized that no individual or institution is above the law. He stressed that the investigation must be thorough, objective, and guided solely by the facts.

Upon receipt of the investigation report, the President will carefully review its findings and determine the appropriate course of action in the best interest of justice, accountability, and the people of Liberia.

The move comes in the wake of emerging public allegations and social media reports linking a pickup truck, allegedly connected to a narcotics suspect or trafficker to the LDEA OIC’s office.

In his letter to the Minister of Justice, LDEA OIC Biago, said he was taking a recusal from his active duties and functions as head of the LDEA. This move, he noted, is aimed at preserving the utmost integrity, transparency, and public trust of the national anti-drug campaign and to ensure an unhindered, credible administrative and security investigation.

LDEA Rejects Unsubstantiated Claim Concerning Vehicle Allegedly Given to Officer-in-Charge

Monrovia, Liberia – August 7, 2026: The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) unequivocally rejects the allegation circulating on social media and other platforms that Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitzgerald T. M. Biago, Officer-in-Charge of the LDEA, received a Toyota pickup truck from an individual alleged to be associated with drug trafficking. The claim is false and has not been supported by any verifiable evidence.

DCP Biago states that he neither received nor accepted the vehicle described in the allegation and did not authorize anyone to receive it on his behalf. The LDEA is aware of no credible record, documentation, or evidence substantiating the claim.

The LDEA recognizes that public officials must remain open to legitimate scrutiny. For that reason, any person possessing credible evidence of misconduct is encouraged to submit it to the appropriate investigative authority for an independent and lawful review. Serious allegations should be tested through evidence and due process, not repeated as fact without verification.

The Agency maintains zero tolerance for corruption, misconduct, or collusion with criminal networks. These standards apply to every officer, regardless of rank, and any substantiated violation will be addressed in accordance with law and established disciplinary procedures.

The public and media are urged to verify claims before publishing or sharing them, particularly where unsupported allegations may prejudice ongoing operations, damage reputations, or weaken public confidence in national security institutions.

This appeal does not restrict lawful criticism or responsible journalism; it reinforces the shared duty to distinguish allegation from established fact.

The LDEA remains focused on its operational mandate: disrupting drug-trafficking networks, protecting communities, preserving the integrity of investigations, and enforcing the law without fear, favor, or political influence. Unsubstantiated claims will not divert the Agency from that mission.

Minister of Justice and The U.S. Embassy Hold Follow-u Meeting on Ongoing Drug Investigations

Monrovia, Liberia – August 6, 2026: The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Republic of Liberia today held a productive follow-up meeting with the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the United States of America to review ongoing cooperation in support of Liberia's ongoing drug investigations.

During the meeting, the Chargé d'Affaires reaffirmed the United States Government's commitment to supporting the Ministry of Justice in strengthening its capacity to investigate and dismantle organized drug trafficking networks.

The Minister welcomed the continued partnership, noting that the collaboration has progressed beyond discussions, with technical personnel from the United States currently working alongside Ministry of Justice investigators and prosecutors in support of ongoing investigative efforts.

The Ministry reiterates its commitment to conducting thorough, impartial, and evidence-based investigations and appreciates the continued support of the United States Government as Liberia advances its fight against transnational organized crime.
