Sinoe Rivals Unite: Youth Groups Lead Landmark Post-Elections Peace & Reconciliation Tournament in Butaw

December 11, 2025

Butaw, Sinoe County — In a powerful demonstration of unity and healing, the Youth Movement for Grass-Roots Alliance (YOMOV-GRA) and the Grigsby Cares Foundation International (GCF) are set to host a Two-Day Post-Elections Peace and Reconciliation Tournament in the Butaw Administrative District from December 20–21, 2025.

Under the inspiring theme, “Forgetting the Past, Moving Forward for a Better Sinoe,” the event is being hailed as a historic step toward rebuilding trust following the heated 2023 general elections.

What makes this gathering especially significant is the participation of two former rivals, Hon. D. Terry Panyonnoh and Atty. Teklo Maxwell Grigsby II, both of whom contested and lost the Sinoe District #1 seat in 2023. The two are expected to symbolically “smoke the peace pipe,” signaling a fresh chapter of reconciliation, maturity, and collaboration.

Observers say this is the first genuine post-elections dialogue effort in Sinoe, driven not by political elites, but by youth and community-based peace actors.

The tournament is expected to bring together:

Local and national stakeholders

Political analysts

Activists and community elders

Youth leaders

Supporters from all sides of the political divide

The aim is clear: promote peace, foster healing, and steer Sinoe towards collective development rather than lingering political divisions.

As Liberia continues to nurture its democratic culture, initiatives like this, rooted in grassroots reconciliation are being praised for showing how communities can rise above election-season tension and build bridges of understanding.

The Butaw District is already buzzing with anticipation, as residents see the event as a bold example of how unity can triumph over rivalry.

Sinoe, it seems, is choosing peace and charting a new path forward.

Margibi Authorities to Launch Countywide “Operation Keep Margibi Clean” Campaign

By: Journalist Sakajipo M. Chea

The Margibi County Local Authority has announced a massive countywide clean-up campaign, set to begin on December 15, 2025, at 9:00 AM, as part of efforts to promote a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment across the county.

Superintendent Hon. Ojay Godfavor Morris, who is spearheading the initiative, has issued a directive mandating the participation of business owners, public and private institutions, community residents, commissioners, general town chiefs, clan chiefs, paramount chiefs, town chiefs, community leaders, schools, and health facilities, as well as all Margibians and passersby.

According to the superintendent, failure to comply with the directive will result in fines, with all payments directed into government revenue through the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA).

The “Operation Keep Margibi Clean” campaign aims to curb poor sanitation, reduce pollution, and cultivate an environmentally conscious culture across the county. Authorities say the exercise is also intended to reinforce civic responsibility, particularly in fast-growing urban and rural communities.

Superintendent Morris emphasized that the campaign’s success depends on full community engagement and collective effort. He described the initiative as a practical step toward improving public health, preventing disease outbreaks, and enhancing the overall image of Margibi County.

Community leaders, institutions, and residents are expected to mobilize locally, conduct thorough cleaning of homes, offices, markets, and public spaces, and properly dispose of waste in line with county regulations.

The initiative forms part of the county’s broader commitment to environmental management and aligns with national priorities for sanitation and public welfare.
