The Assistant Minister for Technical Services at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, Nicholas Johnson, is calling on Liberia to fully embrace Information and Communication Technology—or ICT—to fast-track national development.

Speaking at the close of Liberia’s first-ever Technology Summit held at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, Minister Johnson emphasized that the future belongs to those who adapt to innovation.

He pointed out that many of the world’s problems already have solutions, but access to and understanding of those solutions often depends on a nation’s willingness to embrace modern tech.

Johnson expressed strong optimism that within the next decade, Liberia will take significant steps toward integrating ICT in schools and across key sectors.

The summit, a milestone in Liberia’s digital development, brought together tech stakeholders, policymakers, and educators to chart a course for a digitally empowered nation.

“EPA Unveils Modern HQ and Lab in Push for Greener Future”

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has officially dedicated its new headquarters and modern scientific laboratory in Mamba Point — a milestone the agency says marks a fresh chapter in environmental governance and national development.

The upgraded facilities, valued at over 100,000 U.S. dollars, provide what leaders describe as a much-needed improvement to the agency’s working environment.

Speaking at the dedication ceremony, Vice President Jeremiah Koung hailed the occasion as a proud and historic moment for Liberia. He praised the EPA’s leadership under Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpawolo, and emphasized that the newly renovated building which alone cost around 75,000 dollars is symbolic of the government’s commitment to environmental sustainability under the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.

He noted that the EPA had long operated in what he called “unacceptable conditions”, which undermined both its credibility and effectiveness.

Meanwhile, EPA Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel Urey Yarkpawolo said the transformation was in response to long-standing concerns from staff about the agency’s condition. He also highlighted the newly established media and scientific laboratory, which now houses vital equipment donated by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Dr. Yarkpawolo revealed additional upgrades under his leadership, including the purchase of two modern buses for staff transportation and field vehicles to enhance compliance and enforcement operations.

Gbapolu County Senator Amara Konneh Writes....

Now that the debate about yesterday’s protest and crowd size is over, I hope we can focus on the important issues affecting our country. The truth quietly watches our self-deception since 1980. It doesn’t protest or make noise. Those who oppose us often reveal truths that supporters might miss. We lie to protect ourselves, but we usually speak honestly when we disagree.

Yesterday may not have been a good day for the protesters, according to regime supporters, but I hope our government hears their complaints. A silent majority didn’t feel the need to protest yesterday, maybe because of its leaders, but will protest at the polls in 2029 if they don’t see the government making a difference in their lives. They say, “We can ignore reality, but we cannot ignore the consequences of ignoring reality.” Remember, we had stable macroeconomics before the 2023 elections. While we are making steady progress now, times are still tough for families.

Don’t trust those who only say good things about you or a situation!

“President Boakai on the Clock: Protesters Demand Dismissals or Face a Nationwide Unrest”

In a bold political move, organizers of the “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH” protest have issued a 14-day ultimatum to President Joseph Boakai, demanding urgent action on their stated grievances.

At the top of their list is the immediate dismissal of Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman, whom they accuse along with several other government officials of corruption and misconduct.

The group warned that if their demands are not met within the set timeframe, they will launch a wave of nationwide demonstrations. Protest leaders say the potential unrest could carry serious political consequences for the Boakai administration.

However, President Joseph Boakai Reacts to July 17 Protesters:
"I see protesters on their placards saying, "Boakai can't lie". But let me tell them that they can lie and we are moving this country forward",
