B**g County District #5 Representative hopeful Silas Kpanan A’young Siakor has officially declared his membership for the Liberian People’s Party (LPP) of Tiawan Saye Gongloe, a renowned human rights lawyer.
In 2017 Silas Kpanan A’young Siakor contested as an independent candidate and finished second to Representative Edward W. Karfiah who is now expecting to contest as senator for B**g County in the impending 2023 elections.
At an occasion attended by several of Mr. Siakor’s supporters in Suakoko Town over the weekend, Silas K. Siakor said he decided to join the LPP because he believes that he, Cllr. Gongloe and officials of the LPP share similar views about how Liberia can be transformed to positively impact its citizens.
Siakor lamented that many Liberians especially most of those in government believe that corruption is a part of life and cannot be eradicated from the country, something he said is untrue.
Mr. Siakor promised to stand with Cllr. Gongloe when they both are elected to fight corruption in all sectors of the Liberian society.
He said when Cllr. Gongloe is inducted as president in January 2024; he will lobby with him (Cllr. Gongloe), the minister of internal affairs, and the election commission to conduct elections for the local leaders in District #5.
Siakor further noted that lawmakers and top government officials are in the constant habit of threatening local leaders with dismissal or suspension in most cases because of policy or political disagreement.
He said when the local leaders are elected they will make independent judgments and become more accountable to those who elected them.
