The Government of Sierra Leone has said it is actively engaging through established diplomatic and security channels to confirm the location and unconditional release of the kidnapped Sierra Leonean soldiers and police personnel by personnel of the Guinean Armed Forces (GAF).
The forces were attacked and kidnapped at the border town of Kalieyereh, Sulima chiefdom, Falaba district, where they were deployed.
The government said the matter has been formally communicated to the appropriate national, regional and sub-regional authorities, and that engagement is ongoing to ensure a peaceful and amicable resolution.
