LOFA COUNTY UNIVERSITY OPENS 2026/2027 FIRST SEMESTER, ANNOUNCES MAJOR ACADEMIC UPDATES

The administration of Lofa County University (LCU) has officially welcomed students and the wider university community to the 2026/2027 First Semester, which began on Monday, September 14, 2026.
In a press release, read by its Public Relations Officer, Edward Kollie the university administration said it is prepared for the new academic year and encouraged students to approach their studies with seriousness, discipline, commitment, and determination.
The university has announced the successful completion of a one-week curriculum review workshop, led by Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Adama Gross, with support from his deputy, Mr. Augustine Manjoe Ngafuan.
According to the administration, the review has resulted in a new and revised academic curriculum intended to strengthen LCU’s academic programs, meet national educational requirements, and align with international standards and best practices.
The administration also highlighted the establishment of the university’s Fessibu Annex, saying the expansion is responding to growing interest among young people in Zorzor District and surrounding communities seeking access to higher education.
LCU acknowledged that the expansion will bring additional demands for academic programs, facilities, faculty, student services, and other resources. The administration, however, said it remains committed to addressing the challenges associated with the university’s growth.
The university celebrated outstanding academic performance, announcing that three students earned a 4.0 GPA in the previous semester.
The students are:
- Clarence J. Gogbason — College of Agriculture
- Richard S. Wolobah — College of Engineering
- Esther Finda George — Teachers College
The administration congratulated the three students and particularly highlighted Esther Finda George’s achievement as an encouragement to female students that academic excellence is attainable.
Despite the strong performances recorded by some students, LCU said 27 students have been placed on academic suspension for one semester, an increase from the 17 students suspended during the previous academic period.
Meanwhile, 102 students have been issued academic warning letters, compared with 124 previously.
The university said students placed on academic warning or suspension will be required to attend a counseling session through the Department of Counseling. The date and other details of the session will be announced later.
The university also disclosed that nine students were reported for educational malpractice during the previous semester.
The administration said the cases are currently under review and that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the university’s academic policies and procedures.
LCU emphasized that academic integrity remains a priority and said all reported cases will be handled fairly before final decisions are made.
As the new semester begins, the administration is urging students to attend classes regularly, be punctual, study consistently, respect faculty and fellow students, and seek academic assistance whenever necessary.
The university said the success of the 2026/2027 academic year will require a shared commitment from students, faculty, staff, parents, guardians, partners, and other stakeholders.
