This is about my first-ever son, a brave Mandingo by tribe and a Muslim by faith, who had the courage to speak the hard truth to power right in the face of the President of Liberiaπ±π·.
Meet Hon. Varfley Dolleh from Barkedu Township, Quardu Gboni District, Lofa County, Liberia. Hon. Varflay did not begin his brave advocacy and truth-telling to power just today, he has been doing it since at his younger age.
Here is Varflay yesterday, as a student leader at the University of Liberia, at the time studying political science and Mass communication.
He have BA, in Political science and Mass communication from the University of Liberia; went to the law school and ended up at the IBB graduate school in International Relation.
Hold double masters from the United States of America Master in Public Policy and Business Administration from MPA from the Strsyers University.
Delivering a brave speech directly to former President Samuel K. Doe in 1990. In that speech, he urged Doe to hold a round-table discussion and seek a peaceful resolution to the crisis caused by the rise of Charles Taylor and his allies, Amidst the chaos, his call demonstrated a deep commitment to nonviolent conflict resolution and the betterment of the country.
But Doe did not listen and we all know the results of his refusal to accept this brave recommendation from you my son as student leader at the time.
My son, your statement highlights a critical moment in Liberian history and underscores the courage and integrity of those who opposed the war, the period around 1990 was incredibly tumultuous, with widespread violence and political instability under President Doe and the rise of Charles Taylor.
Student leaders like you played a significant role in advocating for peace and democracy, often at great personal risk.
Your decision to go into self-imposed exile following your speech shows the dangerous environment you faced and the severe consequences of speaking out against powerful figures at that time.
I know how Taylor went against you because of this speech and president Doe said you betrayed he simply you refused to takaside with his administration as a students leader of thousands of students at the university of Liberia, right after the speech they went to PHP and burned down I, your father house, looking for you all over, you have to fled to Guinea through, Bomi Hill, Belleyala up to Zorzor and Koyamah all the way to Macenta.
You had to dress like woman in order to escape, you didn't take side with any of the both parties as you hear in the speech.
This history is crucial for the younger generation to understand the complexities, the risks, and the bravery it took to stand for what is right, If anyone participated in that demonstration or has firsthand experiences from that era, their stories would greatly help preserve the truth and give a fuller picture of those challenging times.
Sadly, Doe did not listen and he became the #1 victim, reference (Prince Johnson) and you who told him the hard truth also became a victim when Charles Taylor sent his rebels to your hometown, Barkedu, on Thursday morning, July 12, 1990, around 9:00 AM, massacring more than 300 people and the entire country was victims of this war.
From now on, my other children will know who you truly are, and generations to come will remember you in history for your brave advocacy for the entire country.
May Allah continue to reward you and grant you long life for your courage and service to our community.
You're our role model.
My favorite part of the speech, is may Prophet Muhammed Peace be upon him (PBOH)
