Statement for immediate release
The Leadership of Team Reformist in the Grand Gedeh University Student's Union-GGUSU condemns the disruption of the election and calls on the Veteran Community, for a speedily and quick intervention.
Greetings fellow students of the Grand Gedeh University Student's Union-GGUSU, Veteran Community, stakeholders and members of the press.
On July 6, 2024, the students of the Grand Gedeh University Student's Union-GGUSU went to the polls to elect their leaders who will lead the students movement for the next two years. As the day unfold, students turned out to elect their leaders, but due to the lack of security measures, the process degenerated into chaos and led to many students nearly injured.
According to our TPA, poll watchers/observers were intimidated by the IEC and Acting Leadership which resulted to confusion and later disruption by people believed to be unknown supporters. For an election to be conducted and up to now our poll watchers or observers have not given us a single result, we are very disappointed that the resources spent to conduct a credible, free, fair and transparent election ended in deadlock. We categorly hereby express the failures of the Independent Election Commission-IEC to manage the elections of the Grand Gedeh University Student's Union-GGUSU as a setback and mismanagement of time, effort and resources.
Fellow students of GGUSU, we stand with you in solidarity to condemn such a barbaric act and we will ensure that we reach a logical conclusion. We turn the arrangement and planning of the Acting Leadership and Independent Election Commission-IEC poor and empty.Therefore, we are calling on the Veteran Community for a speedily and quick intervention to ensure the situation is resolved in the soonest possible time.
