MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH
Title: You Good, Bro?
Thabo always showed up. Work at 7. Weekend football. Jokes in the group chat. From the outside, he was solid.
But for 6 months, he was up at 3am. Staring at the ceiling. Thinking about bills, about failing, about nothing. He stopped replying to texts. Started picking fights over small things. He told himself: “Man up. You’re the provider.”
Last Tuesday, his friend Lerato pulled him aside. Didn’t do a big speech. Just said, “You good, bro? For real.”
Thabo cracked. Not all at once. But enough to say, “I’m not, actually.” That was the first time he’d said it out loud.
1 in 10 men deal with depression or anxiety, but less than half get help. Men die by su***de 4x more than women. Not because they’re weak. Because we stay silent.
Strength isn’t suffering alone. It’s saying “I’m not good” and letting someone in.
Check on your guys. Ask twice. Listen for real.
If you’re struggling: You don’t have to carry it alone. Talk to a friend, a clinic, or call a helpline.
