African Markets YTD Performance - 27.02.2026 : 🇬🇭Ghana +46.74% | 🇲🇼 Malawi -3.91%
African equity markets moved in a more contrasted manner this week, with momentum remaining solid in West and East Africa, while North Africa entered a phase of consolidation. Ghana once again stood out, advancing 9.01% over the week and bringing its year-to-date performance to 46.74% in local currency, confirming its position as the continent’s best-performing market. The BRVM gained 3.81%, now up 20.81% since January, with equally robust performance in US dollar terms. In East Africa, Kenya rose 2.95% and Tanzania 2.63%, the latter maintaining an impressive 44.35% YTD gain in local currency. South Africa also posted a strong weekly increase of 4.42%. By contrast, Nigeria declined 1.11% despite a still solid YTD performance (+23.91% in local currency and +32.24% in USD), while Morocco (-3.00%) and Egypt (-2.87%) weighed on the North African trend.

UNDP Lesotho joined the launch of the Horticultural Incubation and Training Centre and the PackHouse at Likhothola Fruit Farm in Mahobong, officiated by His Majesty King Letsie III in his capacity as African Union Nutrition Champion and FAO Special Goodwill Ambassador for Nutrition.

In partnership with the World Bank, UNDP co-funded the establishment of the Lesotho Horticultural Incubation and Training Centre to strengthen the capacity of fruit and vegetable farmers through structured training and skills development. The support includes fruit sorting and packing equipment, agricultural inputs, and IT tools to enhance efficiency and market readiness.

Producing around 600 tons of apples per harvest, Likhothola Fruit Farm is a powerful example of how strategic partnerships are advancing agricultural transformation, rural livelihoods, and resilience in Lesotho.
