To mark their 20-year legacy, New York-based duo The American Dollar presents XX: Greatest Hits Reimagined — a curated compilation of the band’s most iconic tracks, reinterpreted by a global roster of artists working across ambient, post-rock, electronica, and modern classical genres.

Over the past two decades, The American Dollar has become a cornerstone of cinematic instrumental music, known for emotionally resonant compositions that blend ambient textures with post-rock dynamics and electronic flourishes. On this new album, artists from around the world offer their own lens on that legacy — transforming beloved tracks into fresh, deeply atmospheric works.

Each track on XX: Greatest Hits Reimagined carefully walks the line between respect for the original and the artist’s own vision. The result is a collection that opens it up in new and unexpected ways, through the ears of a new generation shaped by The American Dollar’s music.

First released in 2008 on the landmark album A Memory Stream, “Anything You Synthesize” has become The American Dollar’s signature track — a defining piece of ambient post-rock that blends introspection with cinematic grandeur.

UK-based ambient and neo-classical composer Thomas James White reimagines the track through the lens of modern classical minimalism. Graceful and suspenseful, his version replaces the original’s electronic textures with elegant piano and haunting cello, creating a slow-burning emotional arc that feels both intimate and vast.
