How to Use "Due To" Correctly in Business Writing

Ever wondered whether to use due to or because of? Many people use them interchangeably, but there's a simple rule to get it right!

🔹 Use "due to" after a form of "to be" (is, was, were, etc.) because it acts like an adjective modifying a noun.
✅ The delay was due to technical issues.
✅ The cancellation was due to bad weather.

🔹 Use "because of" to modify a verb.
❌ We missed the deadline due to a server crash. (Incorrect)
✅ We missed the deadline because of a server crash. (Correct!)

💡 Quick Test: If you can replace due to with caused by, it’s correct!

While this mistake is common—even among native speakers—getting it right adds polish and professionalism to your writing.

🧠 How to Train Your Brain to Think in English—Even If You’re Stuck Translating Now

Have you ever been in an international meeting, trying to follow the conversation, but your brain just won’t keep up? You hear something, translate it in your head, think of a response in your language, translate it back… and by then, the discussion has already moved on. 😩

The problem isn’t your vocabulary or grammar—it’s that your brain isn’t trained to think directly in English yet.

Here’s how you can fix that and start responding faster and more naturally in business conversations:

1️⃣ Think in Simple English First
Don’t aim for perfect sentences in your head. Start small:
🔹 Instead of thinking “Potřebuji napsat e-mail” → then translating → “I need to write an email,”
🔹 Just think directly: “I need to write an email.”

Train yourself to skip the translation step by practicing with short, simple thoughts.

2️⃣ Describe What’s Around You (in English!)
Wherever you are, challenge yourself to name objects, actions, and emotions in English.
➡️ “My laptop is on the table.”
➡️ “I’m finishing a project before lunch.”
➡️ “This meeting is going well.”

Your brain will get used to forming English sentences instantly, without needing your native language as a bridge.
