🎙️ Throwback to our recent research trip to Paris!

🇬🇧 As part of our ongoing work for the Radio Luxembourg: The Station that Changed Our World exhibition (Spring 2026, Villa Louvigny), we recently visited the RTL France archives to listen to over 50 historic broadcasts from Radio Luxembourg’s French service — including major moments like May ’68, the death of Elvis Presley, and the fall of the Berlin Wall.
We also had the chance to meet the incredible Laurent Marsick, RTL journalist and passionate collector of Radio Luxembourg memorabilia. His archive—lovingly kept in his office and home—is a true treasure trove of photos, radios, vinyls, magazines, microphones and much more. We thank him deeply for his generosity, trust, and dedication to preserving this history.

🇫🇷 Dans le cadre de notre projet Radio Luxembourg : La station qui a changé notre monde (printemps 2026, Villa Louvigny), nous nous sommes récemment rendus à Paris pour écouter plus de 50 archives sonores du service français de Radio Luxembourg chez RTL France — des émissions retraçant des moments clés de l’histoire : Mai 68, la mort d’Elvis Presley, la chute du mur de Berlin…
Nous avons également eu la chance de rencontrer Laurent Marsick, journaliste chez RTL et passionné collectionneur de souvenirs de Radio Luxembourg. Sa collection, soigneusement conservée dans son bureau et chez lui, regorge de trésors : photos, radios, vinyles, magazines, micros, et bien plus encore. Un immense merci à lui pour sa générosité, sa confiance et son engagement à préserver cette mémoire.

🇩🇪 Im Rahmen unseres Projekts Radio Luxembourg: The Station that Changed Our World (Frühjahr 2026, Villa Louvigny) waren wir kürzlich in Paris, um über 50 historische Sendungen aus dem französischen Dienst von Radio Luxemburg bei RTL France anzuhören – darunter Berichte über den Mai ’68, den Tod von Elvis Presley und den Fall der Berliner Mauer.
Ein besonderes Highlight war unser Treffen mit Laurent Marsick, RTL-Journalist und leidenschaftlicher Sammler von Radio-Luxemburg-Erinnerungsstücken. Seine liebevoll gepflegte Sammlung – sowohl im Büro als auch zuhause – umfasst wahre Schätze: Fotos, Radios, Schallplatten, Magazine, Mikrofone und vieles mehr. Wir danken ihm herzlich für seine Großzügigkeit, sein Vertrauen und seine Hingabe zur Bewahrung dieser Geschichte.

As we close out another incredible year, we want to take a moment to look back at the amazing progress we’ve made with our Radio Luxembourg project. It’s been a year full of stories, discoveries, and invaluable connections that have brought the history of this iconic station to life. 🌟

This year, we had the privilege of visiting the homes of Radio Luxembourg speakers, where we uncovered hidden treasures: memorabilia, photos, cassettes, and CDs, long buried in dust but brimming with the voices and broadcasts that defined an era. But Radio Luxembourg wasn’t just about the voices behind the mic. Technicians shared with us the intricate technical side of the station, while listeners and fans reminisced about what it was like tuning in during its heyday. 🎙️✨

With the help of the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) and the Centre National de l'audiovisuel (CNA), we digitized these treasures, ensuring the preservation of Radio Luxembourg’s rich heritage for generations to come.

In September, we conducted a preshoot for our project in the Villa Louvigny. This included interviews with a diverse group of people, from politicians to English, Luxembourgish, German and French department Radio Luxembourg speakers, including some who traveled from the UK to share their memories. The Minister of Culture, Mr. Eric Thill, also visited us, offering invaluable support and encouragement.

To everyone who has supported us this year, invested time in our project, and helped us preserve this remarkable legacy: thank you ! Your generosity and passion have inspired us beyond measure, and we are honoured to carry forward the stories of Radio Luxembourg. 💛

Throwback to one year ago!

🇬🇧 Last year in July, we had the incredible privilege of interviewing two legendary former radio presenters from Radio Luxembourg’s English service: Pete Murray and David “Kid” Jensen. These were the first interviews we recorded on camera for our project with our amazing film crew from Luxembourg. Our team of five traveled all the way to London to capture the exciting stories of these Radio Luxembourg legends.

🇫🇷 L'année dernière en juillet, nous avons eu l'incroyable privilège d'interviewer deux légendaires anciens animateurs de la section anglaise de Radio Luxembourg : Pete Murray et David « Kid » Jensen. Ce sont les premières interviews que nous avons enregistrées devant la caméra dans le cadre de notre projet avec notre formidable équipe de tournage luxembourgeoise. Notre équipe de cinq personnes s'est rendue à Londres pour capturer les histoires passionnantes de ces légendes de Radio Luxembourg.

🇩🇪 Im letzten Jahr im Juli hatten wir das unglaubliche Privileg, zwei legendäre ehemalige Radiomoderatoren des englischen Dienstes von Radio Luxemburg zu interviewen: Pete Murray und David „Kid“ Jensen. Diese Interviews markierten den Beginn unseres Projekts, bei dem wir mit unserem großartigen Filmteam aus Luxemburg erstmals vor der Kamera standen. Unser fünfköpfiges Team reiste eigens nach London, um die faszinierenden Geschichten dieser Radio-Luxemburg-Legenden festzuhalten.

🇬🇧 BBC radio DJ and presenter Steve Wright, who passed away at 69 on 12 February 2024, started his career with Radio Luxembourg, a pivotal moment that caught the BBC's attention.

His six-month stint in the Grand Duchy paved the way for a successful return to England in 1980, where he presented the iconic Saturday night show on Radio 1.

Known for his humor and innovative formats, Wright's journey from Luxembourg to Radio 1 marked a significant chapter in British radio history.

🇫🇷 Le DJ et présentateur de la BBC, Steve Wright, décédé à l'âge de 69 ans le 12 février 2024, a entamé sa carrière avec Radio Luxembourg. Ce fut un moment décisif qui a captivé l'attention de la BBC.

Son séjour de six mois au Grand-Duché a ouvert la voie à un retour fructueux en Angleterre en 1980, où il a animé la célèbre émission du samedi soir sur Radio 1.

Reconnu pour son humour et ses formats innovants, le parcours de Wright de Luxembourg à Radio 1 marque un chapitre significatif dans l'histoire de la radio britannique.

🇩🇪 BBC Radio-DJ und Moderator Steve Wright starb am 12. Februar 2024 im Alter von 69 Jahren. Er begann seine Karriere bei Radio Luxembourg – ein entscheidender Moment, der die Aufmerksamkeit der BBC auf sich zog.

Sein sechsmonatiger Aufenthalt im Großherzogtum bereitete den Weg für eine erfolgreiche Rückkehr nach England im Jahr 1980, wo er die legendäre Samstagabend-Show auf Radio 1 moderierte.

Bekannt für seinen Humor und innovative Formate, prägte Wrights Weg von Luxembourg zu Radio 1 ein bedeutendes Kapitel in der Geschichte des britischen Radios.
