Use of Sulfuric Acid-Laced Hot Water Raises Alarm Over Protest Suppression Tactics
*(H2SO4)*
In a deeply troubling development, reports have emerged of hot water mixed with sulfuric acid being deployed as a weapon to disperse protesters.
The use of such a dangerous and corrosive chemical compound in any context especially against civilians raises serious ethical, legal, and public health concerns.
Sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄), also known historically as oil of vitriol, is a highly corrosive, dense, and oily liquid. It is one of the most important industrial chemicals in the world, widely used in the manufacture of fertilizers, batteries, cleaning agents, and various other products. However, due to its extremely acidic and oxidizing nature, sulfuric acid is also capable of causing severe chemical burns, tissue damage, and even permanent disfigurement upon contact with skin or eyes.
In its concentrated form, sulfuric acid reacts violently with water and organic materials. Introducing it into hot water not only amplifies the thermal danger but also increases the chemical volatility, creating a potentially lethal mixture that can cause intense pain, blistering, and long-term injury to anyone exposed.
The deliberate use of such a mixture in crowd control or protest suppression is not only inhumane but possibly criminal under international human rights laws. The act would constitute a violation of multiple humanitarian codes, including prohibitions against the use of chemical agents against civilians.
Chemical experts warn that even small quantities of sulfuric acid, when diluted in hot water, can still cause significant harm through steam inhalation, splashes, or aerosolized particles, especially in enclosed or densely packed areas. Victims may suffer respiratory damage, vision loss, or deep tissue burns.
This incident, if confirmed, points to an escalation in the militarization of crowd control tactics and calls for urge
