Bill Monroe was born 113 years ago yesterday. “The Father of Bluegrass Music.”

You could say that bluegrass music plum ruined me when I had to have a Bill Monroe boxed set as a little boy. My dad brought one home, and I thought those four cassette tapes were solid gold! (I still have it to.)

The first bluegrass writing I ever did was a school report on Mr. Monroe, and the first time I remember being on the radio was reading that school report on Papaw’s radio show at age 8.

Thanks for this wonderful music we know as bluegrass, and thanks for you indelible impact on American culture and countless lives (including mine).

It’s Bill Monroe’s 113th birthday! Here is “The Father of Bluegrass” with three generations of the Mullins family. 🤯

Knowing that they were great friends, it does our heart good to know that the two men in the middle are both members of the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum! 🙌

Our old pal, J.D. Crowe would have turned 87 years young today. 🪕 This bluegrass legend was the very first guest on our podcast, and was a source of encouragement, support, and friendship for many years. He is sorely missed by the entire bluegrass community.
