Ultimate Steak Fajita Plate with Crispy Fries & Fresh Salad 🥩🌶️🍟
Ingredients:
🍟 3 cups frozen or homemade thick-cut fries
🥩 1 pound flank steak, sirloin steak, or skirt steak, sliced into strips
🫒 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
🍋 1 tablespoon lime or lemon juice
🧄 2 garlic cloves, minced
🌶️ 1 teaspoon paprika
🌿 ½ teaspoon ground cumin
🧂 1 teaspoon salt, divided
⚫ ½ teaspoon black pepper
🫑 1 red bell pepper, sliced
🫑 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
🧅 1 small onion, sliced
🥬 3 cups chopped lettuce
🥒 ½ cucumber, sliced
🍅 2 small tomatoes, halved or sliced
🌿 2 tablespoons chopped parsley or cilantro
Instructions:
Bake the fries: Heat oven to 425°F / 220°C. Spread fries on a baking sheet and bake for 20–25 minutes, turning halfway, until golden and crisp.
Season the steak: Toss steak strips with 1 tablespoon olive oil, lime or lemon juice, garlic, paprika, cumin, ½ teaspoon salt, and black pepper. Let sit for 10–15 minutes while the fries cook.
Cook the peppers and onion: Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add red pepper, yellow pepper, and onion, then cook for 5–7 minutes until softened, glossy, and lightly charred.
Sear the steak: Push vegetables to one side or remove them briefly. Add steak strips and cook for 3–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and just cooked through; for whole steak pieces, cook to 130–135°F / 54–57°C for medium-rare, then slice against the grain.
Make the salad: Arrange lettuce, cucumber slices, and tomatoes on the plate. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and some chopped parsley or cilantro.
Finish the fajita mix: Return the peppers and onions to the skillet with the steak. Toss for 1 minute so the juices coat everything.
Serve: Plate the steak and peppers with crispy fries and the fresh salad. Garnish with the remaining herbs and spoon any pan juices over the steak.
Helpful Notes
For the most tender result, slice steak thinly against the grain. Skirt steak and flank steak work especially well for fajita-style cooking because they brown quickly over high heat. Food Network fajita recipes commonly use steak with peppers, onions, cumin, paprika, and a hot skillet or grill, BBC Good Food uses sliced steak with onions and peppers for fajitas, and Serious Eats recommends very high heat and slicing skirt steak thinly against the grain for tenderness.
