The debate over the venue for the 2030 World Cup final has intensified after Moroccan football chief Fouzi Lekjaa said the Hassan II Stadium would host the match, prompting FIFA and Spanish football officials to reiterate that no decision has been made.

Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and a member of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) Political Bureau, made the claim during an electoral gathering in Benslimane Province on Thursday.

Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch has urged caution over statements about the venue of the 2030 FIFA World Cup final, appearing to respond to recent remarks by Fouzi Lekjaa that Benslimane will host the tournament’s showpiece match.

Speaking yesterday during a communication meeting organized by the National Rally of Independents (RNI) in Mediouna Province, Akhannouch stressed that Morocco has yet to discuss the matter with its Spanish and Portuguese co-hosts.

“We still haven’t discussed the matter with our Spanish and Portuguese allies,” Akhannouch said.
