Interview de Djika Mondonga-O-Bathobandelye

1. Veuillez vous présenter. Qu'aimeriez-vous que votre lecteur sache sur vous ?

-Je suis originaire de la République Démocratique du Congo, précisément de la ville de Kinshasa, et je vis au Canada depuis quasiment 20 ans.

Depuis ma tendre enfance, j'ai toujours accordé une très grande valeur aux études, aux connaissances scientifiques. C’est la raison pour laquelle je n’ai jamais arrêté d’étudier. Pour moi, les études sont une façon d’approfondir ses propres connaissances et de contribuer à l’avancement des connaissances dans le domaine de son expertise. Dans mon cas, j’ai fait des études dans deux domaines différents, à savoir en droit et en éducation. C’est en particulier dans le domaine de l’éducation, où j’évolue depuis près de 15 ans, que j’ai développé des outils utiles qui contribuent à améliorer la vie professionnelle, et personnelle, des intervenants scolaires. Ce livre en est un exemple. Il me permet de sensibiliser et de mobiliser la communauté éducative pour qu’on agisse ensemble en faveur du milieu éducatif et des gens qui le composent. J’aime que les gens autour de moi soient heureux, se sentent bien et qu’ils entretiennent de bonnes relations interpersonnelles. Ce livre est une façon également de mettre en exergue cette caractéristique de ma personnalité.

2. Quelle est votre inspiration/motivation ?

-Je constate que la violence exercée par certains élèves et parents contre les intervenants scolaires prend de plus en plus d’ampleur à l’école. Je remarque aussi que plusieurs intervenants scolaires sont violents envers leurs collègues de travail. J’observe également que la violence à l’école peut toucher n’importe qui et qu’il a un impact négatif sur la santé et la carrière des victimes, sur la stabilité des équipes éducatives et sur la réussite des élèves. Tous ces constats et observations m’ont donc amené à écrire ce livre pour apporter ma pierre à l’édifice, c’est-à-dire contribuer à répondre à la problématique de la violence à l’école. Des pistes de solution intéressantes, basées sur la recherche scientifique et sur l’expérience sur terrain, sont suggérées !

Congratulations to Dr. Ronald L Moy on recently published book entitled: "Prevention of Skin Cancer". Editors: Hunter N. Gray, Eleanor Tung-Hahn

This accumulation of scientific articles reviews all of the scientific information anyone can use to prevent skin cancer and skin aging. The scientific articles in this book include the article from Lancet showing that the use of topical DNA repair enzymes prevents skin cancers by at least 30% in a group of children with xeroderma pigmentosum (born with decreased DNA repair enzymes in their skin). The book also includes the article proving that the use of vitamin B3 oral supplements (nicotinamide) prevents basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma by 23% published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Prevention of skin cancer is not just using sunscreen to help prevent skin cancers in the future. Prevention of skin cancer would be more effective if those at risk were to do procedures to repair the past sun damage with a procedure such as laser resurfacing. The combination of laser resurfacing, topical DNA repair enzymes and taking oral nicotinamide supplements will prevent skin cancers by repairing the past sun damage which sunscreens cannot do.

1. Por favor, preséntese. ¿Qué Le gustaría que su lector supiera de Usted?

-Soy originario de El Salvador, crecí en la ciudad de mejicanos con mis hermanos y mis padres quienes se ganaban la vida, uno trabajando en su taller de modas y el otro en la construcción. Desde pequeño me gustó leer, aprendí el oficio de las artes gráficas (tipógrafo prensista) con el cual me financie los estudios universitarios, luego me dedique en gran parte de mi vida al trabajo comunitario, la docencia en los diferentes niveles del sistema educativo y la consultoría. Fue en este ambiente que me incliné por la investigación científica y la innovación. De hecho, funde dos escuelas públicas, una en mejicanos, y otra en apopa, en simultaneo realice estudios de maestría y Doctorado.

2. ¿Cuál es su inspiración/motivación?

-La interacción con personas y la forma de cómo aprende siempre me llamó la atención, cómo funciona la relación del ambiente y el cerebro humano, el rol de los planes y programas de estudio y los avances tecnológicos.

1. Please introduce yourself. What would you like your reader to know about you?
-I am the President of the Woman Forward Foundation and CEO of Comercia Global, a board member, speaker, writer, and executive coach. My professional journey spans across sectors and continents: I’ve served as a civil servant at the European Commission, worked as an associate at three of the world’s leading law firms, and now lead a group of CEOs and business leaders as Chair at Vistage. Through all these roles, my focus has remained consistent—empowering individuals and organizations to lead with purpose, equity, and impact. Whether I’m mentoring senior executives, advising boards, or conducting research on corporate governance and diversity, I aim to bridge the gap between intention and action in leadership.

2. What is your inspiration/motivation?
-My motivation is deeply rooted in what I’ve seen throughout my career: talented, high-performing women systematically held back by invisible barriers. From global law firms to public institutions and private companies, I have witnessed how even the most qualified women struggle to rise through the ranks—not due to lack of merit, but because of structural bias, outdated recruitment models, and cultural blind spots. That reality drove me to research, write, and speak out. I want to contribute to a transformation in how we define, recognize, and cultivate leadership—one that is inclusive, data-informed, and aligned with the challenges of today’s world.

As a special analytical chemist, and soon head of an analytical department, the author had to ensure both the quality control of routine work, as well as to broaden the scope of parameters to be offered. The first volume of his selected papers is focused on chemical analytical procedures which have been developed in addition to usual operations. Whereas in organic analysis, separation and subsequent substance identification have been main tasks, inorganic trace analysis has to tackle mainly to reach sufficient detection limits, and to avoid contaminations. Compared with the determination of main components, analysis of traces might be less precise, but more sensitive, and selectivity and ruggedness towards cross-interferences has to be validated, e.g. by recovery, standard addition or various sample weight – reagent proportions. In addition, blanks from the entire procedure, including reagents, vessels and atmospheric immission, have to be prepared in every batch. The validity of data can be easily checked, if different procedures yield similar results. As this is not possible in many cases, regular participation in ring tests is essential. Here, the same homogenized sample is sent to various labs, and the results statistically treated by the sender, yielding the most probable result. The use of certified reference materials to prove an analytical procedure has brought great progress of validity within the last decades. But the number of certified parameters is limited to those which are often requested for, and problems of transferring something collected in the environment to a homogenous sample ready for weighing, are omitted. In trace element analysis, precision and systematic errors have to be considered, starting from drying, milling and cutting, till suitable digestion methods, which are suitable for multi-element determination methods.

1. Please introduce yourself. What would you like your reader to know about you?

I am since some 40 years professor in Medical Radiation Physics at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. I have spent a large part of my life trying to understand how the process of Radiation Therapy works and can be improved. This book summarizes my conclusions with focus on the last few years when our deeper understanding of the molecular function of radiation therapy have been substantially increased, resulting in a potential major improvement in clinical treatment outcome.

-2. What is your inspiration/motivation?

When I started, cancer was a life threatening disease with more than 50% fatal outcome, today more than 80% of the patients can be rather safely cured with minimal side effects by optimal treatment techniques. Tomorrow the common fear of getting cancer will almost be gone! The most problematic treatments are pediatric and many clinical improvements are suggested!

-3. How long did it take to complete your book from the idea to publication?

It took me about 2 years to finalize the book manly based on a hand full of key publications published the last five years. The new approaches in these papers opened the door to a better understanding of how to best perform radiation therapy and optimally use the wide rage of existing radiation modalities with minimal harm to the patients.

The growth of environmental awareness is traced from the conservation movement to the current sustainability movement. This leads to a discussion of international action for sustainable development, explaining and commenting on endeavours such as the Club of Rome, MAB, the Brundtland Commission, ICLEI, the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development, Agenda 21, and Agenda 2030. The UN Global Goals (also called the UN Sustainable Development Goals) are discussed in terms of benefits and what could make them easier to implement. An argument is made for strengthening bottom-up leadership for sustainability. This is followed by two chapters on approaches that do this – Biosphere Reserves and Biosphere Eco-Cities. Then three future scenarios are described based on top-down leadership, adding bottom-up leadership, and then adding Indigenous elements. The reader is left with the task of developing ideas for personal actions on sustainability to create a better future.

El cacao ha sido uno de los productos más estudiados por la historiografía para entender las sociedades precolombinas establecidas en Mesoamérica. Desde el conocimiento por parte de los europeos de la planta de cacao en 1502, su fruto se convertirá en uno de los productos más demandados por la población novohispana desde el siglo XVI y cuya demanda continuará creciendo durante el siglo XVIII, coincidiendo con la irrupción del gran mercado europeo y la posterior libertad de comercio. Tras la drástica disminución de la producción cacaotera de Nueva España, los territorios de Venezuela y Guayaquil iniciarán a partir del siglo XVIII una pugna por asegurarse una posición en el mercado novohispano como grandes productores de cacao, en una época caracterizada por el monopolio comercial concedido a la Real Compañía Guipuzcoana de Caracas, las restricciones del comercio intercolonial y el contrabando que aliviaba los problemas de dichas prohibiciones.
