'Located in Leopold Park, the House of European History is a great place to learn more about Europe’s recent history. It’s an initiative of the European Parliament, and it’s free to visit.

Inside, you will find plenty of historical artefacts, from old maps to artworks and political documents. One of the floors even boasts an oldtimer Fiat Zastava from the 1950s, along with plenty of household products from that time.

This museum also hosts temporary exhibitions. I visited the current one, which is about postcolonialism, recently, and learned a lot about the topic.'

Transnistria, or Pridnestrova, is a narrow strip of land between Moldova and Ukraine.

Although it's not internationally recognized, this self-declared republic has its own government, military, flag and currency. You actually need to cross a border and show your passport to enter. 🛃

Once you're there, it feels as if you're stepping back into another era. One where massive Lenin statues still stand and where the Soviet atmosphere never really disappeared. 📻

I travelled here alone and ended up having a great experience. Although most people only speak Russian, they were welcoming. One person even walked me to the bus and made sure I got on the right one when I asked which one goes to Tiraspol. 🚌

Brutalist architecture is one of the reasons why I wanted to visit Moldova, and I wasn't disappointed. 🇲🇩

Walked 29 km on my first day in Chisinau, spent the rest of my trip walking on blisters... but no regrets. 🤪

It’s been two years since I visited Afghanistan, one of the rawest and most interesting countries I’ve ever experienced. 🇦🇫 Still, I don’t know if I would go back.

Afghanistan surprised me in ways I didn’t expect. It’s steeped in history and home to some of the most hospitable people I’ve ever met. But when it comes to human rights (and women's rights)… that’s a whole different story.

While the Afghanistan I've experienced is different from what the media portrays, it's a much more complex place than any headline can capture.

During the month I spent here, I was struck by the contrast between the privileges I encountered as a solo foreign woman and the realities people navigate here in their daily lives.

I could write a book about you, Afghanistan, but I still can't find the words. 📚
