When I produce music I have a choice of a huge range of digital instruments. These have enabled me to play tunes using say violins and cellos (instruments I can't play). Now I can play the tune on a midi keyboard and a realistic sound is produced. Most listeners can't tell the difference because they don't play that instrument themselves, and the sound generated is a close approximation of what the natural instrument sounds like. In recent days, real singers voices have been sampled and with the help of software those sampled voices can be made to mimic the sound of the real singer (who sold the rights to use their sampled voices). This has opened the door to even further empower the modern music producer to produce great songs by using software voices.
Some people are shocked to hear the voices on my last two singles were software generated versions of other singers voices. I worked on the lyrics and the assembly of the song but I didn't sing the words. If I had sung, it would not be great to listen to.
I am convinced that God is not scared by innovation and technology. He wants Christians to grow in creativity and not shrink back leaving innovation to secular music producers. Can God's anointing rest on digital imagery in songs - yes! Most of the songs you revere as 'anointed' already have layers of digital processing applied to them to achieve the final sound. It's been going on for many years.
I am excited because a mediocre singer like myself can now divert my energies into something far more important than getting a good vocal sound - getting the lyrics to align with the truth in the word of God.
I am working on releasing an album with some truly beautiful voices featuring. When you hear the tracks with a female lead vocalist please know beyond any doubt, I did not sing the vocals. 🙂🙂
