Thanks to social media, which has become a virtual territory for ambitious folks yearning for readily available information! But is it just a paper-thin silver lining of an enormous dark cloud? Unsurprisingly, the boom of the social media market has turned it into a commonplace hive of sparkling debates over matters, serious or trivial, and a battleground for cyberattacks, a hunting ground for cyber scams, cyberbullying, scapegoating, and you name it! Want more description? It also pictures a podium for gathering followers, a playground for heroic stunts and funny pranks, a shooting set for dramatic social experiments. And a red velvety carpet for the presentation of poverty p**n! With the deeply ingrained stereotypical beauty standards, social and moral norms, and cultural values, people, including me, tend to project their beliefs and opinions openly – but recklessly! Amidst the slideshow of events, the shift in spotlight is ultimately insane nowadays because of social media’s fast-moving nature! Once a blamer or bully could quickly vanish to a sanctuary where they could undergo a metamorphosis and end up completely innocent. Such a miracle, isn’t it? It’s also ironic to see that their defamation is caused by social media, which in turn can help conceal their callous, razor-sharp claws and teeth afterwards, like magic! So, what brings you here on social media?

ကလေးတွေကို vocabulary building လုပ်ရင်းနဲ့ သူတို့ရဲ့ creativity နဲ့ critical thinking ကိုပါ train ပေးလို့ရပါတယ်။

ဒီနည်းလမ်းလေးက ရိုးရှင်းပါတယ်

စကားလုံး အသစ် 5 လုံးခန့်ပေးပြီး အဲ့စကားလုံးတွေပါဝင်တဲ့ composition လေး လုပ်ခိုင်းတာပါ။

ဒီနည်းလမ်းက Traditional ဆန်ချင်ဆန်လိမ့်မယ်။ ဒါပေမယ့် သူ့ရဲ့ အားရစရာကောင်းတဲ့အချက်တွေကတော့

(၁) ကျောင်းသားသည် vocabulary အသစ်ကို လေ့ကျင့်နေရင်းနဲ့ သူ့မှာ ရှိပြီးသား သုံးခဲ့ဖူးပြီးသား vocab တွေကိုပါ ထပ်မံအသုံးပြုခွင့်ရသွားတဲ့အတွက် အဟောင်းတွေကိုပါ မမေ့သွားတော့ဘူး။ ကျွဲကူးရေပါ ဖြစ်စေတယ်။

(၂) ဆရာက instruction မှာ theme တွေ၊ tone တွေ၊ style တွေပါ ထည့်ပေးထားရင် ကိုယ်လက်တလောသင်ကြားပေးနေဲ့ writing အမျိုးအစားကိုပါ လေ့ကျင့်ရာ ရောက်စေတယ်။ (ပုံထဲမှာ ပြထားတာကတော့ Article writing အရေးအသားဖြစ်ပါတယ်။)

(၃) အပေါ်မှာ ပြောခဲ့သလို သူတို့ရဲ့ စိတ်ကူးဉာဏ်ကွန့်မြူးရာ အခြေအနေလေးဖန်တီးပေးထားတဲ့အတွက် brain and mental health ကို အထောက်အကူဖြစ်စေတယ်။ ကျောင်းသားကို openly ဘာရေးဆိုပြီး ရေးခိုင်းတာတော့မဟုတ်ဘူး။ vocabulary building လုပ်ဖို့ ရည်ရွယ်ချက်ကရှိနေတဲ့အခါကျတော့လေ။ ဒါပေမယ့် ခုလိုမျိုး controlled practice မှာတင် ကျောင်းသားတွေရဲ့ စိတ်ခံစားချက်တွေကို ဆရာကိုယ်တိုင်က မြင်တွေ့ခံစားရတဲ့အတွက် ဆရာနဲ့ ကျောင်းသားကြား mutual understanding ရပြီး ဆက်ဆံရေးကို ပိုခိုင်မာစေတယ်။ (Educational
psychology ပေါ့ဗျာ!)

(၄) နောက်ဆုံးအချက်ကတော့ writing skill သိသိသာသာ တိုးတက်လာမယ်ပေါ့။ ပုံမှန်လေး လုပ်သွားမယ်ဆိုရင် တကယ်တိုးတက်ပါတယ်။ ဆရာ့အနေနဲ့ သူတို့သိသင့်သိထိုက်တဲ့ vocabulary list ကလေး ထုတ်ထားပြီး တစ်ပါတ်ကို တစ်ခါရေးခိုင်းရင်ကို လုံလောက်ပါပြီ။ ပြီးရင် spaced repetition - မေ့လောက်တဲ့ အချိန်လေးမှာ မေ့နိုင်လောက်တဲ့ vocab ကို အသစ်တွေကြားထဲ ညှပ်ညှပ်ထည့်ပေးပြီး train ပေးဖို့လည်းလိုမှာပေါ့လေ။ စိတ်ရှည်ရှည်နဲ့ စနစ်တကျလေးသွားရင် writing quality တကယ်ကောင်းလာပါလိမ့်မယ်။

ပုံမှာပါတဲ့စာကတော့ ကျွန်တော်ကိုယ်တိုင် Vocab လေ့ကျင့်ထားတာပါ။ ဆရာကိုယ်တိုင်လည်း vocab ကြွယ်ဖို့လိုသေးတာဆိုတော့။

ကျွန်တော်လေ့ကျင့်တဲ့နည်းကတော့ ကျွန်တော် vocab အသစ်တွေကို တေးမှတ်ထားတဲ့ Vocab bank file ထဲကနေ vocab ၅ လုံးကိုယူတယ်။

သူ့ရဲ့ meaning တွေ၊ usage တွေ၊ collocation တွေ research လုပ်ကြည့်တယ်။ ပြီးရင် တစ်လုံးချင်းစီ ဝါကျဖွဲ့ကြည့်တယ်။ ပထမနာရီဝက်က ဒါနဲ့အချိန်ကုန်ပါတယ်။ နောက်နာရီဝက်ကျမှ theme တွေ tone တွေ style တွေ သတ်မှတ်ပြီး composition စလုပ်ပါတယ်။ နည်းနည်းတော့
အချိန်ပေးရပေမယ့် စာလေးထွက်လာတဲ့အခါ sense of achievement ရလို့ ပျော်ရွှင်ရပါတယ်။

Writing an article lesson pack

IGCSE ESL students and teachers တွေအတွက် ရည်ရွယ်ပါတယ်။

Article တစ်ပုဒ်ကောင်းကောင်းဘယ်လိုရေးရမလဲဆိုတာကို hands-on activities တွေနဲ့ step-by-step သင်ကြားဖို့အတွက် ကျွန်တော်ကိုယ်တိုင် ဖန်တီးထားတဲ့ Lesson pack လေးကို free ဝေမျှပေးချင်ပါတယ်။

Lesson pack မှာ Lesson plan အပြင် activities အတွက်လိုအပ်တဲ့ worksheets တွေ sample articles တွေ, Power point presentation တွေပါ ထည့်ပေးထားပါတယ်။

ဆိုတော့ အဆင်သင့် Print ထုတ်ပြီး သင်ယုံပါပဲခင်ဗျာ။

One of the fun ways of teaching reading skill.

Objectives

- To be able to organize a coherent and cohesive paragraph
- To understand the connection between ideas, opinion and attitude (R2)
- To practice target functional language : expressing opinion/ agreeing and disagreeing/ making suggestion

Preparation

- Print four short texts related to the theme of your teaching week.
- Make stripes by chopping off the lines of the paragraph into fragments and scramble them.

Lead-in

Teacher show the students some expression on the screen and have the students label their function.
(To make this fun, play ‘Jump the line’ game in which students have to stand in a line and jump to the respective side (functional language) once they hear the expression.)

(To make this advanced and interactive, show them some statements and let them respond to them using target language. But it will take time.)

How the game is played?

Step 1 Split the class into groups (gp number depends on your class size) and put the stripes on their tables.

Step 2 Show the groups text A for 2 mins to have them read and try to get the understanding of the text.

(Meanwhile, teacher has to encourage them not to memorize it, but to analyze how ideas are organized, such as noticing linking devices, pronoun references and synonyms.)

Step 3 Conceal the text and have them unscramble the stripes to make the same paragraph as they have seen.

The group who quickly manages to finish the paragraph wins.

(Do the same for the next three rounds. Reduce the amount of reading time as the game progresses.)

As a multiple-matching activity, the teacher gives each group the original four texts and a list of 8 or 9 statements, each of which are related to each of the text. The groups have to decide which statement belongs to which text. The fastest group who can give the answers correctly wins.

During the process, the teacher has to mingle around each group reminding them to use the target functional language.
