Previously known as Sound & Image Challenge, the Macau International Short Film Festival is held every year in Macau since 2010. Last year, it featured a total of 194 short films and music videos from more than 50 countries.
It is divided into two competitions, SHORTS - films in the categories of Documentary, Fiction and Animation - and VOLUME for music videos. In the Official Selection, the winner of each of the following awards Best Fiction, Best Documentary, Best Animation will receive a monetary prize. For the Prestigious Awards Selection, films will be nominated for Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Music, Best Sound Design, Best Visual Effects. Other prize money awards include Best Film of the Festival, Best Local Entry, Macau Cultural Identity and - newly introduced - Best Student Film.
The Festival promotes masterclasses, concerts and talks. During the public screenings of the films, the audience will VOTE for the winner of the Audience Choice Award.
