Malta Women’s National Rugby Sevens Team etched their name into the history books after clinching the San Marino RSM 7s Tournament title for the very first time, defeating Le Cinghiale 14-12 in a thrilling final.
After suffering a 7-17 setback against Le Cinghiale in their opening round-robin match, the Maltese side responded in emphatic fashion. Dominant victories over Pesaro (28-0), Bustrong (37-0) and Athenas (19-12) secured their place in the championship decider and highlighted the squad’s determination and growing momentum throughout the tournament.
In the final, Malta produced a disciplined and fearless display, weathering early pressure before turning the contest around to seal a memorable 14-12 triumph. Strong defensive organisation, composure under pressure and clinical finishing proved key against powerful opposition.
Adding to the celebrations, Jacqueline Azzopardi Richard was named Best Player of the Tournament following a series of outstanding performances and inspirational leadership across the weekend.
