Wazaa FM wishes to formally inform the public that the decision to cease operations has been taken after prolonged and severe financial challenges faced since the COVID-19 pandemic, compounded by operating in an increasingly competitive media and advertising market.
Like many businesses, we were significantly affected by the economic impact of COVID-19. In the years that followed, the station continued to face mounting pressures within a highly competitive environment, making recovery and sustainability extremely difficult. Despite these challenges, we made every possible effort to continue operations, prioritising the preservation of jobs and striving to keep the station alive. Over the past few years, we actively explored multiple avenues to secure funding and strategic partnerships that would allow us to continue our journey. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we were unable to secure the necessary funding to sustain the business.
As a result, Wazaa FM has today formally informed the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) of its decision not to renew its broadcasting licence.
This decision was not taken lightly. It marks the end of a journey built on passion, resilience, and commitment to our audience and our people.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all our well-wishers, partners, advertisers, and loyal listeners for their continued support over the years. A special thank you goes to our incredible team — both past and present staff — whose dedication, professionalism, and heart made Wazaa FM what it was. It has been a true privilege to lead such an exceptional group of people.
While it is deeply sad that this journey comes to an end, the memories of what we built together will be cherished for a lifetime.
