Mzuni Community in Shock After Sudden Death of Level 3 Student

The Mzuzu University community is mourning the sudden and tragic death of a Level 3 Education Science student.

According to unconfirmed reports, the student began complaining of severe stomach pains shortly after writing exams on Friday . He was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The news has come as a huge shock to fellow students, especially those who had just sat for exams with him the same day.

Details surrounding the incident are still emerging and will be shared as soon as they are confirmed.

Today we’re celebrating the amazing Ruth Ghambi !

Ruth is originally from Chitipa but now lives in Mzuzu. She began her secondary school journey at Ekwendeni Girls and later continued at Tukombo Girls Secondary School.

She’s now in her final year (Level 4) , studying for a Bachelor of Education in Science, majoring in Mathematics and Physics.

Ruth is not only passionate about education but also a natural leader. She has served in key student roles:
ODELSA Sports Director (2023–2024),ODELSA Secretary (2024–2025),MUSREC Sports Director (2024–2025)

A teacher by profession and a true sports lover, Ruth finds joy and peace through sports. She plays basketball, netball, volleyball, and football with so much energy and heart.

When she’s not on the field, she enjoys listening to music, going for hikes, and relaxing with friends. A true inspiration in both academics and sports!

Man Crush Monday

Today we're crushing on Eselen John Mwamande, a 22-year-old from Mwenengolongo Village in Karonga. He started school at Mzinga Primary and later got his MSCE at Ngerenge CDSS in 2020, where he was one of only nine boys who passed. He then went to Chaminade Secondary School and scored 17 points, with top marks in biology and humanities.

Now he's a Level 2 Education Arts student at Mzuzu University. He was recently elected as the secretary of the MZUNI Heart of Giving Foundation ,a student-led group that helps vulnerable students. They're just waiting for final approval from the Dean.

Outside school, Eselen enjoys writing poems, sharing motivational posts on Facebook, and meeting new people. He’s also into rice farming to support his dream of becoming an entrepreneur by 2026.

Mzuni Master’s Degree Student Dies

Edith Lupoka, a Master’s degree student at Mzuzu University, has tragically passed away.

She died today, 22nd June 2025 while receiving treatment at Mangochi District Hospital. Edith had previously completed her first degree at the same institution in 2022.

Until her passing, she was also serving as a teacher at St. Monica Girls Secondary School in Mangochi.

May her soul rest in peace.

Mzuni Shines in NOZOBAL Youth Championship

Mzuzu University basketball teams have made headlines this weekend. The Mzuni Hotshots (ladies) won their match against Northern Fire and will play in the finals tomorrow in the NOZOBAL Youth Championship.

On the men’s side, Mzuni Panthers were crowned NOZOBAL Youth Champions after crushing Pistons Youth 50–25.

Speaking to Campus Buzz, FAFASA Sports Director Mwayi Comings Lupiya said, “This is exactly what I want to see,Mzuni teams performing well in every sport. I expect even greater things from both teams as they keep pushing forward.”

With this double win, excitement is high across the Green Campus. All eyes are now on the Hotshots as they prepare for the finals tomorrow.
