Champions League Football Returns.

By Tendai Kamunga

Football fanatics are excited with the return of the much anticipated UEFA Champions League (UCL) tomorrow.

After the season break, football teams are geared up to face their opponents in the UCL. The first match will be played between Athletic Bilbao against Arsenal at 18:45 pm.

A Chelsea fan, Tiyamike Kavulala has expressed joy since the team he supports earned a spot in the league as it did not make it last season. "I cant wait to watch my team play in the UCL again. It was not sounding well for a big team like Chelsea to play in the Europa League," he said.

The fan also said that he will depart earlier for school to share the Off Shade experience with first year students. First years are supposed to arrive on campus on 29 September.

Other teams that earned a spot in the UCL include FC Barcelona, FC Bayern, Manchester City, and Paris Saint German just to mention a few.

Buried Marks: Uncovering MZUNI’s Missing Grades Crisis

Reported by Wiseman Justin gwayi

At Mzuzu University, a serious issue keeps affecting students every semester, missing grades. It’s a problem that doesn’t just delay results; it delays futures, graduation plans, and peace of mind.

From our findings at Campus Buzz Media, about 2 out of every 10 students in the Faculty of Education are affected. In other faculties, it's about 1 in every 100 students. These numbers may seem small to some, but for the students involved, the stress is real.

One student from the Faculty of Education told CBM, “Since last semester, I haven’t seen my results. I’ve been moving from office to office. They say they’ll help, but nothing changes.”

This situation isn’t new. Every semester, students raise complaints. And every semester, they’re told, “We’re working on it.” But how long will this continue?

Denis Chilima, Academic Director for FAFASA, said the issue was reported to the right offices. He added that lecturers have been asked to upload Continuous Assessments (CAs) on time to avoid delays. On the other side eversmile Academic Director for ODELSA said he have so far helped some students for their grades to be uploaded and some will be sorted soon he narrated .CBM tried to reach out to PG association Academic Director for the matter but it proved futile

Meanwhile MUSREC President George Kamadya said he has raised the matter in the University Council meeting (August 8) and again during the Student Affairs Committee (August 28). He also mentioned that the ICT Directorate promised the issue will be resolved by September 29th, when the next semester begins.

But many students have heard these promises before ,and they’re growing tired.
One female student told CBM, “They changed the system from Student Portal to ISMS, but the same problem is still here. We’re always waiting, always guessing. It’s frustrating.”

At a university that prides itself on excellence, how can something as basic as uploading results still be an issue?

Mzuni students deserve more than apologies and empty promises. They deserve working systems, clear communication, and real accountability.

Public Debt Engagement Session Sheds Light on Malawi’s Financial Burden

By Mwayi Solomon

On Friday 22Aug25, from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM, a public debt engagement session was held at the Lecture Theatre along the TTC corridor. The session was organized by Quota for Youth in collaboration with the Next Gen Leaders Association (negla)

The discussion focused on key principles surrounding public debt, including the legal framework, debt disclosure, accountability, and transparency. One of the most eye-opening revelations was that nearly 88% of Malawi’s GDP is made up of debt, sourced from both domestic and international lenders.

Participants actively contributed to the discussion, with some students expressing concern that Malawi may still be under a form of modern colonialism, where creditors have significant influence over the country's decisions. Others highlighted the negative impact of heavy debt on essential public sectors such as healthcare, education, and agriculture.

The session ended with a strong call for greater awareness and engagement among youth in national financial matters, especially concerning how public debt affects development and sovereignty.

Ghost of Yaro Awida Still Haunting Ma Conti: A Chant Turned Warning

By Wiseman Justin gwayi

Once a viral and spirited chant, Yaro Awida is now a shadow that haunts the corridors of mzuni, especially among continuing students. It was fun, loud, and full of energy ,until management stepped in and labeled it a form of academic malpractice.

The chant, originally aimed at first-years during exam season, became a tradition. But last academic year, its popularity hit a wall when the administration cracked down, warning that such behavior disrupts learning and undermines exam integrity. The once-unifying anthem of senior pride has now turned into a silent ghost, feared more than celebrated.

This week, the echo of Yaro Awida returned, just as Level 1 students prepare to sit for their COMM 1201 paper today. The Dean of Students issued a stern reminder: anyone found chanting will face disciplinary action. This warning hit home.

Seniors, once proud participants, are now cautious. One student admitted, “I’ll be in town. I only have two semesters left. I can’t risk everything over a chant.”

This shift shows a deeper change in campus culture. What was once an expression of student tradition has become a cautionary tale about balancing fun with responsibility. The Yaro Awida chant may be quiet now, but its ghost still reminds students of the fine line between vibe and violation.

Mzuni Library to Stay Open Until Midnight , Big Screen Coming for Football Fans

Reported by Wiseman Justin gwayi

Good news for students, After productive discussions with management and library staff, George Kamadya, the MUSREC President, has confirmed that the Mzuzu University Library will now be open until 12 midnight.

The extended hours begins today, allowing students more time for study and researce, especially during this busy exam period. The change has been welcomed by many who prefer quiet, late-night study sessions.

In an additional update, Mr. Kamadya told CBM that the big plasma screen TV donated by Vitumbiko Mumba of the MCP through mcp wing will officially be mounted tomorrow at the offshade . The screen will be used for football match viewings and other student-friendly activities, offering a space for relaxation and social engagement.

The night is no longer silent it now noise with pages turning and football cheers rising.

By Precious Mwakabanga

This afternoon at Thengere Ground, Sonda United and Moyale Barracks Reserve played an exciting match that ended 0-0.

From the beginning, both teams played with great energy. Sonda attacked more, while Moyale focused on fast counter-attacks. There were some good chances ,Sonda’s strong shot was saved, and Moyale’s late header missed just wide, but no goals were scored.

In the second half, the match became even more intense. Both teams fought hard in midfield, and the goalkeepers made great saves to keep the score level.

At full-time, the teams shared points, and the league remains open as the season moves on.
