MDF soldier lost his life early Thursday morning when an ERF truck he was in overturned at Box Hunga, along the Chikangawa/Jenda stretch of the M1 road.

The truck was traveling from Mzuzu to Lilongwe when the accident happened, Mzimba Police spokesperson Maria Banda confirmed.

Banda identified the deceased as Vincent Mwenifumbo and he was pinned under bags of rice that spilled after the truck rolled and was later pronounced dead at Mzimba District Hospital.

Another passenger, Kasonkanji Nkhoma, survived with an injury to his right leg.

Police say the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. His whereabouts and other details remain unknown as investigations continue.

Malawi Electoral Commission Chief Elections Officer Andrew Mpesi has stepped down, LWC confirms.

Mpesi himself confirmed the resignation. MEC Commissioner Limbikani Kamlongera also verified it.

Kamlongera said the announcement was made during an internal meeting led by MEC Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja.

Murder case convict Annie Mumba Dies Before Appeal Hearing at the Supreme court of apeal and she was on bail, according to the family sources.

Mumba was convicted by High Court Judge Mzonde Mvula for the murder of her husband, Professor Peter Mumba who was then lecturer at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR).

She had been granted bail pending her appeal at the Supreme Court of Appeal. The appeal hearing had not started before her death.

The body of the unknown person was found dead inside the ceiling of Mpingwe Hostel at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) in Blantyre.

University workers discovered the body in an advanced state of decomposition. The deceased is suspected to be a MUBAS student.

Authorities are conducting investigations to determine the cause of death and to formally identify the deceased.
