Dear Mr Masina,

This picture we just downloaded from your Mai Mbambande Page, just says everything that you are and have been: the man behind, the man in the background!

Until a few weeks ago, none of us who don’t know you personally had an idea you ever existed.

More so, none of us could ever think a man existed in Deborah’s life.

But we had to learn more: you have been cooking things behind the scenes for years, you have been a rare kind of support system for ages and you have been a pillar extraordinaire for a long time.

For long, we have appreciated and applauded Deborah, Mai Mbambande, for being selfless, loving, courageous and mature for her age.

We were amazed to learn you have been part of the great team. And we do not doubt you have been instrumental in the Foundation’s work.

That you have never wanted to be in the spotlight is a mystery.

We live in a world where youth of your age are dying to be overnight celebrities even over things that truly are not worth it. You seem to be different.

And you have been there serving as an employee in the foundation.

Haven’t you heard that men are supposed to be the head? Why did you not claim ownership of affairs when you knew you would make a name out of it?

This level of humility, this level of humbleness, just this act of wanting the best in your girlfriend, not wife yet, is admirable, Mr Masina.

We want to appreciate you and tell you that you are a rare man! Thank you for defending Deborah silently, thank you for winning her heart, and thank you for giving her your shoulder to lean on.

Without an iota of doubt, she is carrying a huge load of work that just needs someone to assure her, “all will be well”, “I will carry your stress for and with you”, “you can do this, babe”.

Thank you for being that man.

Your decision to marry her excited so many of us who wish you well. And, so, may you live to enjoy a happy union together.

May God be at the centre of your love, marriage and work!
