Kumati these policies lack sincere reflection is an understatement and coming from the so called leaders of our nation is even more appalling. You have serious corruption in all levels of government that is directly affecting the development of this nation and robbing the youth of their future but somehow you got time to target the teachers once again who have consistently been sidelined throughout the beginning till now. First off, all the countries I've ever lived in or traveled to (its been quite a few), they have summer school as an option especially the private schools. Even the religious institutions have summer camps aimed at learning new practical skills for survival. In my honest opinion home schooling should be the only effective teaching method now because the schools and quality of education offered in these public schools is a joke. Its crazy to think my daughter and son are learning using the same materials I used 30 years ago(yes i am old), there is no true progress. ASIYENI APANGE DOLLAR, THE ECONOMY SUCKS ANYWAY
The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has prohibited all schools from conducting paid lessons during holidays, describing the practice as "unacceptable."
This decision comes at a time when some private schools are currently offering paid summer classes, despite the holiday period.
The Ministry has observed that holiday classes prevent both students and teachers from getting essential rest and also affect learners from vulnerable families who cannot afford the fees.
In a written response to MIJ Online, Christopher Kapachika Banda, the public relations officer for the ministry, accused some teachers of intentionally not completing the syllabus during the term to create a demand for paid holiday lessons.
The ministry has warned school authorities involved in this malpractice that they risk disciplinary action for violating the policy.
According to Banda, all schools must remain closed during breaks and follow the official academic calendar, which starts on September 22, 2025.
Authorities have urged the public to report any schools conducting holiday classes for a fee.
Meanwhile, education officials have been instructed to enforce the policy.
