The Musical Stoics: Changing the Narrative Through Talent
The Musical Stoics is a vibrant youth group under SAGE Trust (Support for the Aged and Guidance for the Emerging) that is dedicated to spreading awareness and driving social change through music, talent, and creative performances—including musical plays and songs with powerful messages.
Based in Karonga, near the shores of Lake Malawi, we work directly with vulnerable youth in communities facing serious challenges. Many young people here are exposed to alcohol abuse, drug use, and peer pressure, often leading to destructive behaviors.
Tragically, in some cases, these same youths are manipulated or driven into harmful acts—such as violence against the elderly, including shocking incidents of burning or attacking older people accused of witchcraft.
As The Musical Stoics, we decided to fight back—not with force, but with purpose.
> We are using the same energy, the same youth, and even the same talents that could destroy—to instead build, educate, and uplift.
By channeling their creativity into music, plays, and performances with deep, socially conscious messages, we are shifting the mindset of the youth. We’re showing them that they can be voices of change, not agents of harm.
Through this initiative, the youth are learning to stand against violence, promote peace, and advocate for critical issues such as:
Gender-based violence
Respect for the elderly
Drug and alcohol awareness
Girls’ education and school re-entry
Environmental protection and cleanliness
The Musical Stoics believes that talent is a tool—and awareness is a weapon. Together, they can transform communities from the inside out.
