I am a beneficiary of COSOMA...I always receive my loyalties every year ...and to be honest looking at how inactive iam now musically....what i receive from COSOMA is enough to me.
Ndimayamika.
But everytime i go to receive money at COSOMA i find artists complaining all the time....the only problem is once they receive the money ...they all leave and take their complaints nowhere....till its time to receive the money again.
To me i wouldn't rush to call COSOMA corrupt but i would love if they worked on their Public Relations especially when it comes to how they operate.
Most of the things artists complain about are:
1. How come the songs i registered recently have not made me money despite enjoying good airplay ...they have calculated using old songs?
2. How come this year i have pushed my music/art than last year ....but last year i received alot of money than this year.?
3. Why is artist B receiving 20 million yet artists A has received 3pin.... can't they share the 20 million fairly to all?
4. Why is the song i produced the most earning song yet me as a producer have received nothing?
5. I stopped pushing this song why has it earned me money than this song i have been pushing?
6. Why are all songs i registered earning the same amount of money (e.g 5000 per song) is that realistic? Like all songs earned the same amount? Really?
7. How does COSOMA calculate artist's earnings?
These are some of the questions i find artists asking eachother....and with all the workshops that COSOMA hosts i wonder why participants do not ask these questions there? Mumaopa kuti sazakuitananinsoni?
And then there is this issue of giving grants to artists....
This year I collected the forms and when i read them i realised that to be given this grant you need to write a proposal that will benefit not only you but mostly the community you are coming from and partly the music industry....but wen you see the projects that have been awarded these grants you wonder how will the project benefit the community.
And another last thing that i would love COSOMA to explain is how does an artist who has his music released earn nothing at all throughout the year? I feel like all artists who released their products should be to earn even little amount....loyalties are supposed to be forever. If i am wrong ....thats where COSOMA needs to explain.
They need good public relation and strong civic education to enlighten the nation .... otherwise....people will always speculate things.
