MALAWI OUT OF THE RACE? - AFCON
The say 'It is not over until it is over' will no longer work out for Malawi national football team in the qualifiers of 2025 Africa Cup Of Nations, unless a miracle happens, following an embarrassing defeat in Dakar, Senegal.
Flames conceded four times against the Taranga Lions on Friday, as a price for Brighton Munthali's sending off, in a game played under floodlights.
Munthali received his matching orders 16 minutes into the game for fouling former Liverpool attacker, Sadio Mané.
George Chikooka, who plays for Silver Strikers, conceded later on after his subbing on, as Senegal broke the virginity of the game on 34th minute through Pape Gueye.
Second half saw the Taranga Lions scoring three goals to darkens Flames' way to the 2025 Africa Cup Of Nations final in Morocco. Sadio Mané, Boulaye Dia and Nicolas Jackson scored inside eight minutes midway through the second half.
Flames is the only team in Group L without a point and lies on the bottom of the table. Burkina Faso and Senegal are occupying top positions respectively with seven points, Burundi sits on third after gathering 3 points. Each team has played three games.
As it is, it will be a tall order for Flames to make it to the 2025 Africa Cup Of Nations looking at the points top two teams have garnered so far.
Return-leg is set for Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, on Mothers day.
