SYNOD OF LIVINGSTONIA HOLDS ITS 40TH ASSEMBLY

The 40th General Assembly of the CCAP Livingstonia Synod is underway at Kamuzu Academy in Kasungu District where among the agenda is the election of leaders who will serve in key departments for a four year term.

Speaking earlier today, the just elected CCAP Synod of Livingstonia General Secretary Rev. William Tembo welcomed the participation of political figures at the gathering, saying they, too, are called by God to serve the Malawians.

The Sunday Service gathering was attended by political figures, including former president Lazarus Chakwera, Second Vice-President Enock Chihana, former Vice-President Khumbo Kachali, UTM President Dalitso Kabambe and his Vice Matthews Mtumbuka plus some members of parliament.

THE SCORCHERS FOR LUNCHEON AT KAMUZU PALACE

Malawi’s First Lady, Professor Gertrude Mutharika says celebrating the Scorchers performance at WAFCON over luncheon at Kamuzu Palace will forever hold a special place in her heart.

"My heart is overflowing with joy and above all, pride as a mother. My children, the Scorchers, have put Malawi on the map! Sharing a table and lunch with you all at the State House is such a beautiful and fun moment and yes, the laughter and dancing means alot!" Mutharika said.

She thanked Malawians for the incredible support given to the Scorchers snd further encouraged the nation to carry the love all the way to Brazil 2027.

The First Lady, thanked President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, for the generous gift of K5 million to each player.

"Scorchers, you have made your mother proud! Keep shining, keep fighting." She said.

CHURCH MANUFACTURES ELECTRIC CARS

Christ Embassy, a Nigerian church founded by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has unveiled its own line of electric cars. 🇳🇬

The church unveiled three series of vehicles, namely ‘Falcon', 'Passion' and 'OG', as it moves into the electric vehicle space.

The cars have caught people’s attention online, with many surprised to see a church venture into car production and electric mobility.

Christ Embassy’s pastor also teased that “the best is yet to come,” suggesting that more could be on the way.

POLICE CONFISCATE FI****MS

Police in Lilongwe have confiscated fi****ms and arrested the owner, Christian Ndovi, aged 31, who lives in Area 15.

According to Lilongwe Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Khumbo Sanyiwa, detectives acted on a tip-off from members of the public that Ndovi was dealing in fi****ms.

Sanyiwa said that backed by a court warrant, the assigned police officers searched Ndovi's house where they recovered two blank pistols, 61 blank 9mm rounds, and a container of pellets.

It was also learnt that Ndovi had already sold two pistols to residents in Area 43, Lilongwe where Police successfully recovered one blank pistol, one pellet pistol, and five blank 9mm rounds from the buyers.

Ndovi hails from Mwandovi Village, Traditional Authority Wasambo in Karonga District and he will appear in court to answer charges of unlawful importation, possession, and dealing in fi****ms.

GRAND WELCOME CELEBRATIONS FOR THE SCORCHERS

A Grand Welcome Celebration is being planned for the Scorchers as a show of gratitude by Malawians for making history at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco where they played Cameroon.

Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture Public Relations Officer Macmillan Mwale revealed that key stakeholders from public and private sectors are planning in unison to give the Scorchers a befitting welcome for the debut achievement.

He said the planning stakeholders include the mother Ministry, the Lilongwe City Council, Malawi National Council of Sports, Malawi Olympic Committee, Malawi Police Service, Malawi Defence Force, FAM and official sponsor National Bank of Malawi.

Mwale disclosed that the celebrations will involve the MDF brass band, a police parade and traditional dances from the airport to where the team will lodge.

The Scorchers come home with USD750, 000, individual silver medal and a Puma Golden Boot Trophy for Temwa as the highest goal scorer in the WAFCON.

The Scorchers have also earned participation in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

MUTHARIKA COMMENDED

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has hailed Malawi President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for his dedication to the promotion of peace and security in the region during his tenure as Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security.

In his handover speech, Mnangagwa commended Mutharika for his leadership and commitment to maintaining peace and stability within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Mnangagwa has handed over the SADC Organ chairmanship to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the 46th Ordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government in Durban, South Africa.

Second Vice President Enock Chihana is representing President Mutharika at the summit.
