People First Foundation Joins Peaceful Solidarity Walk Ahead of Elections

This afternoon, People First Foundation proudly joined fellow members of the Mzuzu Civil Society Network in a peaceful demonstration under the theme “Solidarity Walk” to promote peace and unity ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Hundreds of participants, mainly young people, marched from Vigwagwa Market through the streets of Mzuzu, carrying messages of hope and urging all citizens to embrace calm during the electoral process.

Speaking during the event, Commissioner for Peace and Unity, Mwandida Theu, assured the public that mechanisms are already in place to safeguard order and safety, including close collaboration with the Malawi Police Service to prevent tension and unrest.

The march, which received overwhelming support from civil society groups and community members, served as a strong reminder to political leaders of their responsibility to uphold democratic values and discourage violence.

People First Foundation’s Executive Director, Lumbani Kaunda, emphasized the importance of the youth in building peace and protecting democracy:

“As young people, we hold the power to shape the future of Malawi. This solidarity walk is more than just a demonstration — it is a call to every citizen to embrace peace, unity, and tolerance during and beyond the elections.”

He further underscored the organization’s commitment to civic engagement:

“At People First Foundation, we believe that a peaceful election is the responsibility of every Malawian. Our role is to amplify the voices of the youth, reminding political stakeholders that democracy thrives where there is peace and respect for one another.”

As People First Foundation, we remain steadfast in championing youth-led initiatives that foster peace, unity, and inclusive democracy in Malawi.

Following consultations with Mzuzu City Council and the Malawi Police Service, the Organizing Committee of the Tour de Mzuzu Bicycle Race wishes to inform all stakeholders that the event, initially scheduled for 7th September 2025, has been postponed.

The new date will be confirmed and communicated after the Elections. This adjustment has been necessitated by several logistical considerations and external factors.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause and sincerely appreciate the understanding and continued support of our sponsors, partners, and participants.

People First Foundation was born out of a deep compassion and an unwavering love for our community. From the very beginning, our mission has been guided by the belief that humanity is at its best when we stand together for one another. That is why charitable work remains one of our strongest pillars.

Every day, we receive numerous heartfelt messages from individuals, families, and communities in need—each carrying a story of struggle, resilience, and hope. While we may not always be able to respond to every request, these voices continue to inspire us to push harder, think creatively, and act boldly.

As a youthful and dynamic organization, we believe in the power of participation. We open our doors to individuals who share our vision and are ready to join us in making a difference. Whether your passion lies in charitable work, human rights advocacy, or inclusive education, there is a place for you in our team.

At People First Foundation, we believe that the challenges we face today do not always require foreign solutions—they can often be solved by using the resources, skills, and ideas that already exist within our communities. Through collective effort, cooperation, and shared commitment, we can create sustainable change.

We envision a circle of compassion—a team of people from all walks of life united by empathy, action, and the belief that every small act of kindness can spark a wave of transformation. Together, we can build stronger communities, protect the dignity of every individual, and leave a legacy of hope for generations to come.

Join us. Let’s put people first, always.
