LUANAR STUDENT AUBREY KACHINJIKA SELECTED FOR AI4ALL HACKATHON ON DISASTER RESILIENCE
A third year Food and Nutrition Science student at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), Aubrey Kachinjika, has been selected for Phase I of the AI4All Hackathon which aims at building inclusive solutions for early warning and disaster resilience.
The first phase of virtual boot camp will take place on 14–15 August 2026, Phase II will also take place virtually on a date to be communicated later while Phase III will take place in Egypt. AI4All Hackathon is organized by the African Youth Advisory Board on Disaster Risk Reduction (AYAB-DRR) under the African Union.
Speaking with Bunda Eye on the selection, Kachinjika, who is also the Founder and CEO of Resilient Africa Technologies Ltd and a Generation Connect Youth Envoy for Malawi (2026-2040) in Switzerland, said he is excited to learn and collaborate with innovators from across Africa. The programme will bring together participants from Malawi, Egypt, Ethiopia, Zambia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco and other countries to explore AI, disaster risk reduction, early warning systems and inclusive innovation.
“This is an opportunity to build alongside other young innovators and contribute to solutions that can make Africa more resilient to disasters, I’m grateful to the partners, supporters, mentors and programmes that continue to believe in our vision of using technology to build a more resilient Africa.” he added.
Kachinjika is known for his E-flood design. E-Flood is an IoT- and AI-powered flood and lightning early warning system designed to improve the detection and preparedness of vulnerable communities. It provides timely alerts through siren, SMS, phone calls, emails, and dashboards, helping communities take action before disasters occur.
