Good News Ministries sets to host Night of Resurrection

By Brighton Tchongwe

The Good News Ministries, led by Prophet Patson Gondwe, says it is set to host a Night of Resurrection on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Muzu, near Muzu Primary School in Lilongwe.

Speaking during a community walk in Area 47, one of the Ministry Workers Richard Masina emphasized that the crusade aims to raise awareness about the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Masina encouraged all believers to attend the overnight event to receive blessings and spiritual renewal.

He further highlighted that the gathering would facilitate financial breakthroughs and business growth for attendees throughout the nation.

In addition, he mentioned that Prophet Patson Gondwe will distribute anointed stickers to all Christians, which are intended to bring transformation in various aspects of their lives.

"As a church, we are committed to raising awareness, urging every believer in the country to participate in the Night of Resurrection on Sunday.

We invite both believers and non-believers to join us in large numbers so that all areas of stagnation in our lives can be resurrected by Prophet Gondwe," Masina explained.

He further appealed to all Malawians to come and receive their anointed stickers for free, noting that these stickers will carry blessings for everyone, regardless of their religious background.

The event will commence at 6 PM on Sunday and continue into the early hours of Monday at the new location of Good News Ministries in Muzu, near Muzu Primary School.

MITC unveils Xidian International Stock Exchange Company

By Dean Chisambo - Contributor

The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) has unveiled the first foreign-based Chinese stock exchange company in the country, known as Xidian International Stock Exchange, which is expected to boost economic growth and increase foreign exchange reserves.

Speaking during the official launch of the Xidian International Stock Exchange in Lilongwe, MITC Director General Kruger Phiri described the development as a major milestone for Malawi, the first of its kind since the establishment of the Malawi Stock Exchange in 1995.

Phiri emphasized that the establishment of an international stock exchange will bring in significant foreign investments, particularly in foreign currency, which is more beneficial than relying solely on the Malawi Kwacha.

He noted that for the past 60 years, Malawi has struggled with access to robust capital markets. The arrival of the international stock exchange, he said, will help ensure the availability of foreign currency and provide an alternative investment platform.

“This is not about competing with the Malawi Stock Exchange,” Phiri clarified. “Rather, this is about complementing it by promoting foreign currency trading in Malawi.”

He further highlighted the positive track record of Chinese investors in Malawi, stating that they are not strangers to the country. “They have already contributed to several development initiatives, and their continued interest shows their commitment to massive investment in Malawi,” he said.

On his part, Xidian International Stock Exchange Chairperson Liao Jun Hua disclosed that nearly 20 Chinese companies have already expressed interest in investing through the platform.

Meanwhile, Patrick Mhango, Executive Director for Regulation at the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), welcomed the development, stating that the new international stock exchange will attract more foreign investors and boost foreign direct investment (FDI).

Mhango added that the Xidian International Stock Exchange will help stabilize Malawi’s foreign exchange market by introducing hard currencies such as the Chinese Yuan, US Dollar, Euro, and British Pound into the economy.

According to MITC, Xidian International Stock Exchange has already injected USD 100 million into the initiative—a move seen as a significant and welcome boost to Malawi’s financial sector.

Standard Bank, World Vision Partners to Combat Climate Change in the country

By Brighton Tchongwe

Standard Bank Plc and World Vision International have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on initiatives aimed at promoting environmental conservation and climate resilience in Malawi.

The first partnership under Standard Bank’s “Mtengo Wanga” initiative will fund forest regeneration efforts to the tune of MK240 million over three years.

The symbolic signing ceremony in Lilongwe marks the beginning of a collaboration that will restore 200 hectares of land and directly impact 10,000 community members.

Standard Bank’s “Mtengo Wanga” initiative seeks to amplify and support efforts to restore Malawi’s natural forest cover through partnerships that promote mindset change, knowledge transfer, and tree planting.

World Vision’s Mbwezera Nkhalango project will be a key partner in this initiative, which includes regenerating forests, promoting forest-based enterprises, and engaging school students in climate resilience activities.

Speaking at the signing ceremony at BICC in Lilongwe, Head of Business and Commercial Banking at Standard Bank Plc Graham Chipande has emphasized the bank’s commitment to driving Malawi’s growth while ensuring environmental sustainability.

“Our partnership with World Vision International is underpinned by a strong alignment of purpose. We are passionate about doing business sustainably and partnering with organizations that understand the importance and impact of operating from that perspective,” said Chipande.

In his remarks the World Vision International’s Director of Operations Charles Chimombo has expressed gratitude for the partnership with Standard Bank.

“At World Vision International, we envision a world where children are secure and the environment is protected. We appreciate Standard Bank’s partnership, which demonstrates its dedication to environmental conservation and contributes to Malawi’s growth and development," explained Chimombo.

The partnership aligns with Malawi Vision 2063, which emphasizes the need for environmental action and stewardship. Standard Bank’s commitment also reflects its broader alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UN Principles for Responsible Banking (UN PRB), the Paris Agreement, and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

World Vision International has been working in Malawi since 1982, with a long-standing track record of partnering with communities to drive inclusive and sustainable development.

This partnership is expected to make a significant impact on promoting environmental conservation and climate resilience in Malawi.

Standard Bank has extended an open invitation to other organizations to join hands in advancing this cause.

Participants will receive a customized Be More Race jersey and access to all race-day activities.

I urge my fellow athletes, social runners and walkers to buy tickets in large numbers so that this race can make a real impact and promote health and athletics across Malawi,” said Chamwala.
