Kamuzu Barracks soldier Diof Simaone, 36, has been convicted of having s*xual in*******se with a 15-year-old girl.

Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate's Court found him guilty on Friday, August 28, 2026. His sentencing is set for next Tuesday.

The court heard Simaone had s*x with the girl four times between April and August 2025 at a guest house in Area 44 and at his house, and impregnated her.

The victim gave birth in January 2026. The case was reported by the girl's mother, a civilian cleaner at Kamuzu Barracks.

Prosecutor Sub Inspector Thandizo Chingaru asked for a harsh sentence, citing abuse of trust.

Simaone asked the court for forgiveness and not to jail him so he can support the victim and child.

The Malawi Police Service has ordered the immediate withdrawal of all traffic aides and officers temporarily attached to the Traffic Branch.

In a wireless message dated 27 August 2026, Head Quarters directed all regional commissioners to redeploy them to General Duties.

The circular warns that attaching staff to specialized branches without the Inspector General’s approval is misconduct and will face action.
