EQ Teaching Tip

One important thing to understand about EQ is that it is mainly used to remove problems, not add sound.

Before boosting any frequency, first listen carefully and cut what you don’t need:
✅ Remove low rumble that makes vocals muddy
✅ Reduce harsh frequencies that hurt the ears
✅ Create space so every sound sits well in the mix

When you clean the sound first, mixing becomes easier and your vocals sound more professional.

Remember: A clean mix starts with good EQ decisions.

When processing vocals in FL Studio the typical order of plugins matters a lot for clarity and control. Here’s the standard approach:

1. EQ (Equalizer) – First

* Use EQ first to clean up the raw vocal.
* Remove unwanted low-end rumble, harsh frequencies, or muddiness.
* Shape the tone before any compression so the compressor reacts only to the frequencies you want.

2. Compressor – Second

* After EQ, use a compressor to even out the dynamics of the vocal.
* This ensures quieter parts are audible and louder parts don’t clip.

3. AutoTune (or pitch correction) – Third

* Apply AutoTune after EQ and compression so the tuning is consistent across the processed vocal.
* Some producers apply subtle AutoTune before compression if they want the compressor to react to the tuned pitch, but usually third is safest.

4. Reverb – Last

* Reverb goes at the end (or on a separate send track) to add space and depth.
* You generally don’t compress or EQ the reverb too aggressively after adding it unless for effect.

✅ Summary Order:EQ → Compressor → AutoTune → Reverb
