The Ministry of Homeland Security has announced that 4.6 million children under 16 in Malawi lack legal identity documents due to not being registered 😔. This announcement came as they launched the Mass Child Registration Campaign.

The campaign will roll out in 7 phases, excluding districts like Karonga and Lilongwe Rural East, which were covered in 2022 🗺️. Minister Peter Mukhito noted that since 2015, the National Registration Bureau has registered 3.8 million children through health facilities and community efforts.

The government has allocated K5.4 billion for the first two phases of the campaign in the 2025–2026 financial year 💰.

Dr Denis Khasu, Acting Executive Director of HESLGB, has taken on the role of Vice President of the Association of African Higher Education Financing Agencies (AAHEFA). The appointment was made during a meeting at the Higher Education Students’ Loans Board of Tanzania (HESLB) offices.

The meeting allowed HESLB and HESLGB to share experiences and boost cooperation in financing higher education. Dr Khasu gained insight into HESLB's student loan management and noted similar challenges in loan disbursement and recovery.

Both institutions face common issues, making experience-sharing crucial. Dr Khasu emphasized learning from best practices to tackle challenges and drive progress.

HESLB's Dr Bill Kiwia outlined the agency's mandate and digital improvements enhancing loan management efficiency, accountability, and service delivery.

The meeting strengthened ties between HESLB Tanzania and HESLGB Malawi, paving the way for ongoing knowledge sharing and cooperation.
