It was one of those weekends when football reminded us who the real star is. Not the players, not the managers, not even the fans but the game itself.
From Old Trafford’s roar to Barcelona’s heartbreak and Blantyre’s blue celebration, football showed its unpredictable beauty once again.
Manchester United lit up Old Trafford with a 4–2 victory over Brighton. Goals from Matheus Cunha, Casemiro, and a brace by Bryan Mbeumo sealed the win, even as Brighton tried to fight back late in the match.
That result marked three consecutive wins for United under Amorim and suddenly the team looks alive again.
Meanwhile, Arsenal kept their focus and edged Crystal Palace 1–0 at the Emirates Stadium. Eberechi Eze’s first-half strike secured the points, and the result sent Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table.
Mikel Arteta’s men look sharp, calm, and confident in their title chase.
It was a weekend when giants like Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea dropped points, making the league title race wide open again.
In Spain, Real Madrid claimed bragging rights in the El Clásico with a 2–1 win over Barcelona. The match had everything, noise, nerves, and moments of brilliance.
Madrid’s experience once again made the difference, while Barcelona’s young squad struggled to keep up. For neutral fans, it was football at its best.
Back home in Malawi, Mighty Wanderers crushed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets 3–0 in the Blantyre Derby. The Nomads played with passion and discipline, leaving Bullets chasing shadows for most of the game.
It was more than just a local victory. It was a statement that Wanderers are back to challenge for dominance.
The celebrations at Kamuzu Stadium showed what football means to Malawians, pure emotion, pride and unity.
This past week, football gave us everything. Goals, shocks, passion, and stories we will remember. The big names fell, the underdogs rose and fans across the world felt the thrill that keeps the game alive.
Football won because it reminded us that nothing is certain. No matter the money, fame or form, anyone can win when the whistle blows. That is the beauty of this game.
Yes, this week, football truly won.
