The First Grade Magistrate Court in Liwonde has acquitted Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Eastern Regional Governor and former Member of Parliament for Machinga Central East, Daudie Chikwanje, of charges of inciting political violence.

The court ruled that the state failed to provide sufficient evidence, despite police claims that Chikwanje’s remarks at a September 2024 rally could incite violence.

The Local Government Service Commission has recruited 20,517 new primary school teachers from IPTE cohorts 14–17, who will be deployed across all 28 district councils.

According to the Commission, the recruitment results are available at district council offices, while graduates from IPTE 18 have been placed on a reserve list pending certification.

Authorities say the mass recruitment will help address teacher shortages and improve learning outcomes nationwide.

The Ministry of Education has written off reports that a new school curriculum will be introduced in September 2025, clarifying that both the general and pre-primary programs are still under development.

It stated that schools will continue using the current curriculum during the 2025/2026 academic year and warned the public against misinformation.
