Men riding an unregistered Toyota Fortuner manhandled and tore activist Sylvester Namiwa’s clothes in full view of Malawi Police officers and Malawi Defence Force officers in Lilongwe.

Namiwa called for help from the security officers, but our reporter saw the officers do nothing. Namiwa was heard crying for help:

“Akulu akulu, dzikoli lafika pamenepa? A polisi, mukundisiya anthu awa apange nane zimene akufuna? Ndithandizeni!” he cried. (Has this country really come to this? Officers, are you just letting these people do whatever they want to me? Help me!)

The police watched uneasily as the incident unfolded, stepping back or sideways whenever Namiwa tried to seek refuge among them. Meanwhile, the MDF officers on top of the armoured vehicles kept fidgeting with their guns but did not intervene.

Leader of Opposition in Parliament Dr. George Chaponda has asked the Ministry of Homeland Security to address the passport crisis at the Department of Immigration, saying it has affected the country's key economic sectors.

In a statement issued this morning, Dr. Chaponda suggests the cancellation of the contract with the current suppliers, Madras Security Printers of India which took over from Techno Brain, as one of the solutions to the problem.

He has also appealed to the Ministry of Homeland Security and Immigration officials to provide a detailed account of what has disturbed the passport processing in the last two weeks in which applicants have been turned back.

Minister of Homeland Security Ezekiel Ching'oma insists there is no passport crisis and that the printing process is going smoothly following an upgrade of the system.

He adds that all the necessary procedures were followed in identifying the new service provider.

A few days ago, I shared a video of Israel bombing an Iranian journalist live on air, a clear violation of international law and a war crime. Unfortunately, some Malawians living in Israel took issue with that I seemed to support Iran over Israel. They sent me foul messages, kunditukwana zichewa zodabwitsa. Apparently, they expected me to support Israel and I understand they created a WhatsApp group to insult me. Some Malawians in Israel, however, sent me decent messages and we had a decent conversation. I appreciate these types of people. As for the ones that sent foul messages, I think they are stupid fools and I did not bother to respond to them.

I am a student of history. History has always been my favourite subject since I was a young boy. I have read extensively on all these issues over the years that I can confidently say my outlook is far more informed than that of the average African man and Malawian.

In this post, I will endeavour to share my opinion on the Iran-Israel war by reflecting on the history of the Palestine-Israel conflict. But before I do so, allow me to apologise to the Malawians working in Israel who felt I was wishing them death, and that my posts would scare their parents back home who follow my page. I genuinely understand your concerns. However, take note that Malawians are scattered across the world. There are some in Iran, Ukraine, Congo, Russia as well- all these countries are at war. So you are not special because you are in Israel and my posts are not about you. Let that sink in. I have been writing about this conflict for years before you went to work in the Israeli farms. In fact, if you dig, you will find posts on this page from 2018 commenting on the Palestine-Israel conflict.

Now listen, Israel claims they are invading Iran to make sure that Iran has no nuclear weapons. Yesterday, Netanyahu said they also want to make sure Iran has no ballistic missile capacity. In short they want a defenceless Iran they can bomb any time a

Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has ordered security agencies to bring an end to a wave of killings in the central Benue state.
It is believed that more than 200 people have died in a series of attacks across various communities in the last few days alone.
Tinubu described the killings as "inhuman and anti-progress". He was speaking after hundreds stormed the streets of the state capital Makurdi to protest against the killings.
