Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) says voting for this year's general election will be conducted manually and the transmission of the results will adopt a hybrid model using both physical and electronic system.

The Commission's Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja disclosed this on Saturday in Mangochi during it's regional engagements with Civil Society Organizations (CSO's).

Mtalimanja said that reports that are circulating on social media platforms that people will cast their votes via EMD'S are not true.

Responding to the CSO's concern on the legal provision that only allows voters to exercise their right to vote at only the centres where they registered or were transferred to, Mtalimanja said the Commission acknowledge the concern but it cannot issue authority to vote else where currently under the law.

"Teacher, motorcyclist die in Dowa road accident"

In Dowa, two men have died after being hit by a motor vehicle at Chezi Trading Center near the Jehovah’s Witness Church along the Lilongwe–Salima Road.

The deceased are Estone Chimwaza (56), a primary school teacher at Kanyenje Primary School, from Mnthunzi Village, Traditional Authority Mponela and Kefasi Chasuluka (55), a motorcyclist from Sosola Village, Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa District.

The accident involved a Sany lorry registration MC 11278 driven by Dennis Ndirowe (40) from Mikunju Village, Trditional Authority Ndindi in Salima District and unregistered Lifan motorcycle carrying Chasuluka and Chimwaza.

Ndirowe was traveling from Lilongwe, heading to Salima direction.

While ascending a slope near Chezi Trading Center, the Lifan motorcycle attempted to overtake a Honda Freed traveling ahead.

In the process, it struck the front right part of the lorry coming from the opposite direction and was run over by the lorry’s rear tyres.

As a result of the impact, Chasuluka sustained severe head injuries and a fractured left leg, while Chimwaza sustained multiple fractures.

Both victims were rushed to Chezi Rehabilitation Center, where they were pronounced dead while receiving treatment.

The motor vehicle had its bumper damaged, and the motorcycle was extensively damaged.

Dowa Police urges all road users to exercise caution and avoid overtaking in dangerous conditions to prevent such tragedies.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Alinafe Banda Malisawa and Grace Kusani over the procurement irregularities at Parliament.

According to a statement signed by the Bureau's Senior Public Relations Officer Jacqueline Ngongonda, the arrests follow its investigations into the abuse of office, neglect of duty, presentation of false documents and fraudulent contract acquisition.

Through a statement, Ngongonda said the Bureau is suspecting that Alinafe Banda Malisawa who was a Procurement Officer at Parliament directed other Procurement Officers to sign delivery notes before goods were received and authorized Local Purchase Order (LPO's) to facilitate payments to suppliers.

She said Grace Kusani, identified as the owner of Divine Excellence Company allegedly forged quotations from companies such as Allu-Tech Aluminium Systems and Carports Kings International to be awarded contracts at the Parliament.

Meanwhile, Ngongomba has disclosed that the two will soon be taken to court where among others will answer the case of abuse of public office and public officers performing functions corruptly.
